EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

“IN THE WORLD OF CHOICE, NEED TO CHECK THE PREFRENCE”

The Indian automobile industry has historically been a good indicator
of how well the economy is doing, as the automobile sector plays a
key role in both macroeconomic expansion and technological
advancement. The four wheelers segment dominates the market in
terms of volume, owing to a growing middle class and a huge
percentage of India’s population being young.

Moreover, the growing interest of companies in exploring the rural
markets further aided the growth of the sector. The rising logistics and
passenger transportation industries are driving up demand for
commercial vehicles.

Future market growth is anticipated to be fueled by new trends
including the electrification of vehicles, particularly three-wheelers
and small passenger automobiles.

The research study aims only the educational research purpose.

INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY

INTRODUCTION OF HONDA
The four wheeler industry has been expanding rapidly. Gone are the days when
processing a four-wheelers was seen as a luxury. Now a day it is viewed
as a mere necessity. Prior, sale of four-wheelers was mainly confined
to urban areas but lately in rural areas the bicycles are being replaced
by power driven two wheelers such as scooters and motorcycles.
Not only this, the industry has also customers ranging from all
demographic segments. It has been common that even school going
children are driving two wheelers. The women customers are also increasing
due to increase in women literacy and employment.

HISTORY OF HONDA

Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) was established in December 1995 as a joint venture
between Honda Motor Co., Japan, and Usha International of India, under the
name Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. The company began its journey with the launch
of the Honda City in 1998, which quickly became one of the most popular sedans
in the Indian market. Recognized for its reliability, performance, and premium
appeal, the City played a crucial role in establishing Honda's brand image in
India. In 2012, Honda Motor Co. acquired full ownership by buying out Usha
International’s stake, renaming the company Honda Cars India Ltd.

Over the years, Honda expanded its line-up with models like the Civic, Accord,
Jazz, CR-V, and Amaze, catering to various segments. HCIL also established a
second manufacturing plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan, in 2014 to boost production
capacity. While Honda initially focused on petrol vehicles, it later introduced
diesel engines to meet market demand. Today, HCIL continues to evolve,
focusing on SUVs and hybrid technology to align with India’s shifting automotive
preferences and sustainable mobility goals.

owned subsidiary of the South Korean automotive giant, Hyundai Motor
Company. The company entered the Indian market with the launch of the
Hyundai Santro in 1998, which became an instant success due to its modern
design, advanced features, and affordable pricing. This marked the beginning of
Hyundai's rise in India, challenging the dominance of existing players with its
focus on innovation and quality. Over the years, Hyundai expanded its product
line-up with popular models like the i10, i20, Verna, Creta, and Tucson, catering

Hyundai’s manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur, Chennai, became a hub for
both domestic sales and exports, making Hyundai the largest exporter of

helped it become the second-largest car manufacturer in India. In recent years,
Hyundai has embraced sustainable mobility by introducing electric vehicles like
