4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Research Google: I used Google to conduct secondary research on the codes and conventions of psychological thrillers so that I knew what the trailer needed to include. I also used Google to research psychological thriller posters and websites so that I knew what mine needed to include.
YouTube: I used YouTube to analyse existing psychological thrillers to see how the directors portrayed mental disorders. I also used YouTube for soundtrack research too see what kind of music would be appropriate for our trailer.
Word: I used Microsoft Word to create a questionnaire which I used for target market research. PowerPoint : I used PowerPoint to create mindmaps and to analyse posters and websites.
Planning Google Drive: We used Google documents to plan our schedule for filming. We created a calendar and filled in all the times that we were available to film, we shared this between us and our actors. This was a very useful way of organising ourselves as we all had access to this document and could update it anytime.
Weebly : I used Weebly throughout the planning stages to present the quick sketch of our storyboard and the shot list that we created as a group. This helped us to finalise and consolidate all of our ideas. I also used Weebly to upload our research and planning presentation from YouTube. This helped us to condense all our research into a couple slides in order for all the vital information to be in one place.
Construction Photoshop: I used Photoshop to create my poster. This software was particularly useful because the various tools allowed me to edit pictures and create a realistic looking poster which I wouldn’t have been able to do elsewhere.
Dreamweaver : I used Dreamweaver to code my website. It was a bit tricky since I’ve never used it before and it was difficult to know where the codes needed to be and what codes were missing.
Final Cut Pro X : I used this software to edit my trailer. We were able to create a high quality trailer because this software allowed us to use the various tools that professionals use. The main tools we used were the ‘trim’ tool and the ‘blade’ tool as this made it very easy to cut and select parts of the clips that we wanted to delete.
Evaluation Prezi : I chose Prezi which is an online media platform to answer the first evaluation question. This software allowed me present my answer in a more creative way. Screencast-O-Matic : I used this software in order to record my screen. This allowed me to talk through my evaluation answer while interacting with the presentation. SlideShare : This software allowed me to upload my PowerPoint presentations which I could then embed into Weebly
Glogster : This allowed me to create a themed presentation of how my main media product and ancillary texts were similar. Weebly: I used Weebly to present all my evaluation answers on the Evaluation page.
