How Plants Survive Understanding the Ways Plants Adapt and Thrive By: Group 4 Leader: Matt Adrian Ursua Members: R Jay Fernandez, Dave Malong, Jesselyn Sinlao, Kimboy Soriano Subject: Science

Introduction Plants are living things that need air, water, sunlight, and nutrients to survive. They have special features and processes that help them live in different environments.

Basic Needs of Plants Sunlight – for photosynthesis Water – for making food and keeping cells alive Air (Carbon Dioxide) – used in photosynthesis Nutrients (from soil) – for growth and development Space – to grow and spread roots and leaves

Photosynthesis Plants make their own food through photosynthesis. Formula: CO₂ + H₂O + Sunlight → Glucose + O₂ Main parts involved: • Leaves – capture sunlight • Chlorophyll – absorbs light • Roots – absorb water

Adaptations of Plants Plants adapt to survive in different environments: • Cactus: stores water, thick stems • Lotus: broad leaves that float • Pine: needle-like leaves reduce water loss

Protection Mechanisms • Thorns – protect from animals (e.g., rose) • Toxic chemicals – protect against insects • Thick bark – protects from heat and pests

Reproduction for Survival • Plants produce seeds to make new plants. • Pollination – transfer of pollen • Seed dispersal – by wind, water, or animals

Importance of Survival If plants survive, they provide: • Oxygen for humans and animals • Food for living organisms • Shelter and balance in the ecosystem

Summary Plants survive through photosynthesis, adaptations, and protection mechanisms. They are vital for life on Earth.
