Kick-as* presentation Dr Rajesh Gopal ED Consultant
Aim Everyone can do a killer presentation.
Why this presentation, when you know it all? Bad slides, delivered badly will make your audience regret being there. Slides should not replace your speech. You are the point of interest not your slides. Slides should assimilate your speech, not replace it.
Build slides Your audience want to hear you. Prepare your topic then the slides, not the other way. Keep it crisp. Choose your font – Garamond, Palatino, Verdana, Segoe, Franklin, Candara, Bodoni, Bell MT, Tahoma, Corbel Font size for titles – 36-44 pt Font size for text – 24 – 28 pt Use A Capital Idea.
Its your presentation Your attendees want to hear you, your thoughts, your understanding. Unless a quote, do not copy texts. Be creative, make it interactive – no one likes being ignored. Human brain by default loves images – add it, more the better. Avoid paragraphs, long sentences.
Themes Experiment with themes Make one unique theme personalized. But be reasonable – can’t have mortality meet with comic themes.
Images vs text As said earlier – humans love images. Human mind learn faster with images. Before adding any image –check for copyright.
Bullet points No long sentences No paragraphs Points to let your attendees listen to u No more than 8 words in a bullet Not more than 8 bullets per slide A bullet is singular – keep it that way Impress your listeners with your words.
2/8/8 rule No more than 1 slide for 2 minutes No more than 8 bullets per slide No more than 8 words per bullet
What a slide Make your attendees your teacher Learn from what they know Kindle their inquisitive minds Make them part of your discussion
Phew just love that presentation Introduce self Know your group Modulate voice to wake the sleepy ones Read well before you prepare your presentation Best be prepared for one among the crowd will be more clever than you Not dramatic, not copied , be your self – charismatic
End your presentation with questions , a bit out of topic for your group to think outa box Introduce recent advances / conclusions from latest journals, hyperlink the journal links. Then finish with references and a bit of reading to do at leisure.
Take home points Well read and well prepared presentations stands out If aint good in English or grammar then make it short. Critiques are the best way to learn All the very best guys, each one of you are good, show off your interactive skills. Plagiarism is an offence Piracy is illegal
Thank you Hope next time I don’t have to see ctrl c & ctrl v. Still searching for a reference if you hear or know anything you know where I will be. Discuss your slides with your moderator one day before ie 24 hours prior to your presentation.
