How to Use Odoo 17 Consignment to Manage Your Inventory Enterprise

Introduction Enterprise Consignment is a business arrangement where a supplier (consignor) provides goods to a retailer or distributor (consignee) to sell on their behalf. However, the ownership of the goods remains with the supplier until the goods are sold by the retailer. If the consignor sells the product, they get a percent of profit from it and the consignee has to give a share from the profit that they made to the consignor. This is one of the marketing strategy used by every business. Managing consignment inventory in Odoo 17 involves a few key steps and configurations to effectively track and manage goods that are owned by a supplier.

Enterprise To manage with the consignment in Odoo 17, let’s get in to the Inventory module and we need to enable the Consignment from the Configuration settings under the Traceability section. This setting will let us to preset the owners for the storable products.

Enterprise Creating Receipts To know the operational functionality of Consignment, let’s create a receipt directly from the Inventory module through the menu Operations->Receipts It shows all the previous created receipts in the company. Click on ‘New’ to create a new receipt.

Enterprise Fill in the necessary fields like Receive From, Source Document and we can add the products which are to be received. An extra field Assign Owner can be seen there on the form which sets the owner for the product being received.

Enterprise Let’s Save, Confirm, and Validate the receipt. The product selected for the transfer is Large Cabinet . Here, we receive from ABC Company and set the Owner as Wood Corner . That is, the consignee here is ABC Company and Wood Corner acting as the consignor. So Wood Corner will be giving the 5 quantities of the product to Wood Corner only for the purpose of selling. So, if the products are not sold, Wood Corner can take the products back and if the products are sold by ABC Company, ABC Company also need to give a share percentage to Wood Corner.

Enterprise For the receipt we made, we can find the inventory movement from the menu Reporting -> Moves history . We can also manage the consignment through RFQ and receiving the products thereby. The receipt or the picking that is created after confirming the RFQ will also be having the same field ‘Assign Owner’ as we saw in the direct receipt creation from Inventory module.

Enterprise Sales Order and the Consignment Detail For any product for which the ‘Can be Sold’ boolean field is enabled in the product view, they can be added in the sales quotation. Lets goto Sales module and create a quotation by adding the customer and needed products. Then, confirm it to make it a Sales order. Then, click on the top smart button ‘Delivery’.

Enterprise Open the form of delivery. Before validating the delivery, click on the ‘Delivered Operations’ or ‘Moves’ smart button on top of the page.

Enterprise T he detailed dashboard view of the quotation operations within the “Detailed Operations” dashboard window. This will also show the product name, Pick-from location, Lot/Serial Number, Owner, Quantity, and Unit of Measure. Here, we can select the Owner so that even in the Sale delivery, the consignment can be kept.

Enterprise We know, in case of consignment, the supplier or the owner of the product still owns the product until they are sold to the customers. This marketing strategy is used when we need to launch a new product in to the market.
