Stage 2: HR Interview Before interview During interview After interview There are two common stages throughout HR recruitment process Stage 1: Document screening Resume Cover letter

Stages in HR recruitment

Four key attributes of successful resume Professional & consistent language Use active sentence & past tense in describing your activities Ensure there is no typo and uncommon slang word/abbreviation 1 Easy to read & understand Use bold/underline to indicate order of importance Clean, neat, & structured format, more decoration ≠ better design 2 3 Highlight what matters Explain what you’ve accomplished instead of describing your job desc. at work Put the most appealing section at top Based on facts and numbers Do not put baseless skill gauge Write number of participants/applicants to highlight the prestige of your honors & awards Use numbers in description to explain the magnitude of impact you made 4

Skills / qualifications This section is not a must have, you can exclude this and put more information in 3 previous sections Work, org., honor & award Order can be switched, you can put the one you are most confident with at the top Example: Resume components High school Only put if you think this will add value to your resume

In writing cover letter, there are technicalities to keep in mind, but top priority is to empathise with the reader (recruiter) Key things to always keep in mind: Empathise, would you be interested if you were the recruiter Don’t be lazy, make a new letter when you apply for a new job Use Grammarly Explicitly mention that you’d like to have an interview Express your gratefulness for being considered Who you are (and how to contact you if needed) Which job you are applying for and how you found it Why you are interested to the job & organization Introduction Body Closing What relevant experience or skills make you a good candidate This should be the elaboration of your CV’s strongest point(s) Embed the STAR method in your story Comprise these components in 250-400 words one-pager

STAR method is a structured manner to answer behavioural question which is applicable for both cover letter and interview S ituation T ask A ction R esult Describe the situation you were in, be very specific on the event, scope, urgency, etc. Describe the goal or objective in the situation Describe what you do to overcome the challenge or complete the task Describe the outcome of your action

Interview with HR is about leaving positive impression in an authentic way Know yourself well Prepare personal pitch Achievements & failures Strengths & weaknesses STAR questions Expectation from the role Reasons to choose you Resume overview Do your research The role & company The interviewer Mindset You are the solution for a problem the company is currently facing Don’t fake character to impress Energy Appropriate attire, strong handshake Take a deep breath to relax & have a more powerful resonance Show that you are actively listening Avoid unnecessary movements Don’t be an a-hole A simple thank you note in LinkedIn can be a powerful if done right Before you send it, polish your LinkedIn to emphasize the message you delivered in the interview Make it simple, short, and concise Add a call to action Before interview During interview After interview All these are important, but to make these work, you have to do it authentically
