The Human Eye Structure, Functions and Parts Submitted by : Lakshay Singh B.Sc. Nursing 1 st Year

Introduction The human eye is a complex sensory organ responsible for vision. It captures light and converts it into electrical signals, which are then processed by the brain.

Diagram of the Human Eye

Cornea & Sclera Cornea: Transparent, dome-shaped surface at the front that begins light focusing. Sclera : The tough, white outer layer giving protection and structure.

Iris & Pupil Iris : Colored ring controlling the pupil size and light entry. Pupil : Central opening that regulates the amount of light entering the eye.

Lens & Accommodation Lens : Transparent and flexible, focuses light onto the retina. Accommodation : Adjusts shape to focus near or distant objects.

Aqueous & Vitreous Humor Aqueous Humor: Clear fluid in front chambers that nourishes and maintains pressure. Vitreous Humor: Gel-like substance that fills the eye and supports its shape.

Retina, Macula & Fovea Retina : Light-sensitive layer with rods and cones for vision. Macula : Central area of retina for sharp vision. Fovea : Center of macula with highest visual clarity .

Optic Nerve & Optic Disc Optic Nerve: Transmits visual signals to the brain. Optic Disc: Exit point of optic nerve, natural blind spot.

Choroid & Ciliary Body Choroid : Vascular layer providing nourishment and absorbing light. Ciliary Body: Controls lens shape and produces aqueous humor.

Extraocular Muscles Six muscles attached to the sclera control eye movement and alignment.

Conclusion The eye is a highly specialized organ where each part plays an essential role in capturing, focusing, and transmitting light signals to create vision.
