Introduction to Hypervisors
Hypervisors, also known as Virtual Machine Monitors (VMMs), are
software, firmware, or hardware components that create and
manage virtual machines (VMs).
They abstract physical hardware resources and provide a platform
for running multiple VMs on a single physical server.

Types of Hypervisors
Type1Hypervisor(Bare-metal)
•Installeddirectlyonthephysical
hardware.
•Examples:VMwarevSphere/ESXi,
MicrosoftHyper-V,Xen.
•Provideshighperformanceand
scalability,idealforenterprise
environments.

Types of Hypervisors
Type2Hypervisor(Hosted)
•Installedontopofanoperating
system.
•Examples:OracleVirtualBox,
VMwareWorkstation,Parallels
Desktop.
•Suitablefordevelopment,
testing,and desktop
virtualizationscenarios.

Creating Virtual Machines
Allocate resources:Specify CPU, memory, storage, and network settings for the
VM.
Select guest operating system:Choose the operating system to be installed on
the VM.
Install OS:Install the guest operating system using an ISO image or network
installer.
Configure settings:Customize additional settings such as virtual hardware and
peripherals.

Managing Virtual Machines
•Deployment:ProvisioningnewVMs
basedonworkloadrequirements.
•Monitoring:MonitoringVMperformance,
resourceutilization,andhealthstatus.
•Maintenance:Applyingupdates,patches,
andsecurityfixestoVMs.
•Scaling:ScalingVMresourcesupordown
basedondemand.
•BackupandRecovery:Implementing
