IBM Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW) - Overview IBM Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW) is a web-based interface for IBM Cognos TM1. It brings new exciting possibilities in terms of visualization of your TM1 data. It is a view-based application which allows you to analyze data, plan and create new content. This is achieved primarily by using the built-in drag-and-drop tools, that come shipped with the product to build dashboards and reports. Modern Visualization (like charts or maps) and Self-service Dashboards Highly interactive viewer, easy to swap data exploration to charts. Easy synchronization between different objects (cube views, web sheets etc.) Flexible enough to export to excel and publish same to workspace. Workspace is mobile and can be accessed from tabs/ iPads. A data discovery interface with natural language processing and collaborative features such as an online chat. Capability to export to PowerPoint or PDF Business User can directly load data from excel into Cube (useful for budgeting)

PAW Home Page

Books & Views Books: Workspace book contain your data. Single page: Displays all your data on one page. Tabbed : You can create separate tabs for different categories of information. For example, you can create separate tabs for sales by country, by region, and by total sales. Views: View can be created any time to perform ad-hoc analysis. View for any example may consists of your Sales Revenue (by Product, by channels , by month). View can be saved as a separate object with a name. That view becomes separate from the view in the book.

Books & Views

Data entry Data Entry can be done in editable cells. Consolidated cells are bold. Read-only cells are colored gray and cannot be updated directly with data entry. Calculated cells are colored green. These cell values are derived through rules calculation and cannot be directly edited. We can copy data from Microsoft Excel and paste it to Planning Analytics Workspace

Displaying data in View Appearance of data can be controlled in a view by moving dimensions to different positions in a view, changing the display from a table to a visualization, or modifying the set displayed for any dimension Change the position of dimensions in a view or change the presentation from an exploration (table) to a visualization. Dimensions can appear in several positions in a view: on the row axis, on the column axis, or as context. Dimensions used as context can be placed in two ways: Can be visible in a view. Can be hidden from users.

Visualization Visualizations described here to present data in Planning Analytics Workspace Few types of visualization are listed below: Area Bar Bubble Column Heat Map Line and column Pie Scatter Treemap Waterfall Network Word cloud Radial bar and many more..

Selectors & Navigation Button SELECTORS: Selectors can be created for dimensions , members, sets or levels. Selector to the sheet to let you change the point of view. NAVIGATION BUTTON: Navigation buttons let you quickly move to new destinations from an IBM Planning Analytics Workspace sheet. You can navigate to a different sheet within the same book or in a separate book, or to the location defined by a URL.

Snap Commands Snap commands are simple commands that you can use to perform tasks quickly Select : Select members, sets, and levels in dimensions. Swap : Swap rows, columns, dimensions in the context area. Find : You can find members on rows, columns, or both. Hide : Hide named members in dimensions on the rows or columns. Unhide : Show or "unhide" members. Drill : Drill down on members. Sort : Sort labels or values in ascending or descending order. Sort -x : Clears all sorting.

Snap Commands

Websheets & Export to Excel A websheet is a Microsoft Excel worksheet (.xlsx file) with TM1 data that you can view in a web browser. Websheets are located in the Applications folder in the tree. A websheet saved in the database is a reference to the original websheet stored on the TM1 database Any changes made to the original websheet on the TM1 database are propagated automatically to all associated websheets in the database

Snapshot to Excel from PAW The Exploration in IBM Planning Analytics Workspace shows sales volumes by channels and months for all of the products the company sells By pressing the Export button you can export that data into an Excel workbook .

Sandboxes & It’s Limitations Sandboxes Sandboxes are personal to the creator and personal versions/scenarios can be created by the user . Sandboxes let you try out different changes to the data before making those changes public to other users and before committing those changes to the base data. Sandboxes are visible only to the individual user. Limitations: You also cannot add members to the Sandboxes dimension. Sandboxes are added to the dimension when you create a new sandbox. You can create unnamed sets for the sandbox dimension, and apply them to the current view, but you can't name and save sets.

Collaborating with Chat Chat feature let user to collaborate with other IBM Planning Analytics Workspace users. Chat conversations are associated with and accessed from an individual book. Any user with at least View only permission to a book can participate in chat. Administrator can set permissions for a book. The chat icon on a book tile indicates if there have been any new messages or replies posted to the book. Set your account image: You can upload an image for your account. Image appears on the Planning Analytics Workspace dashboard next to your username. The image appears next to any messages you post in chat.

Quick Access to your data and other objects We can use simple English Language in SEARCH command We can add a video , URL, Links and Texts. We can Export as Image, pdf and even in PPT. It can be emailed and downloaded in the users Laptop or PC.

Introduction to Planning Analytics – Attribute-Driven Hierarchies You can use hierarchies in dimensions to see alternative rollups of the data in the same view. For example, you might have a hierarchy that shows an organization that is rolled up by region, and a hierarchy that shows an organization that is rolled up by vice-president. You can also create hierarchies of member attributes such as color, size, and type. Use these hierarchies for filtering and analysis. Here are some of the benefits of using hierarchies: Ease : Hierarchies can be created in moments with just a few button clicks. No coding is required, and no structural changes are made to any cube using the underlying dimension. “Hierarchies act as virtual dimensions”. Performance: Hierarchies can improve query performance and consume less memory than adding additional dimensions to a cube. Self-Service: Workspace users can create hierarchies, and then immediately begin creating content and visualizations leveraging the enriched analytics.

Planning Analytics Workspace Security Security for Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW) consists of three main parts: users , groups , and roles . It is important to realize that these three objects are  PAW specific  and just give access to PAW objects (books/views/dimension editors etc.) and these  users will need to be set up in the Planning Analytics (PA or TM1) side first  to be given access to a specific PA environment.
