ICE AND ITS PROPERTIES Posses a regular crystalline structure. The density of ice is 0.9167 g/cm³ at 0°C.

When ice melts, it absorbs as much energy as it would take to heat an equivalent mass of water by 80 °C. During the melting process, the temperature remains constant at 0 °C. LATENT HEAT

DESIGN CONCEPT Requirement of a force to impact ice onto blade. Various forces that could be used. Idea from the centrifuge. Relating it to an ice crusher for a compact design.

MATERIAL AND ITS PROPERTIES As material comes directly in contact with ice i.e. water it should be corrosion resistance. Stainless steels are high-alloy steels that have superior corrosion resistance .

Steel used is grade 202 austenitic steel. Composition The following elements are present in steel: Carbon, Manganese, Silicon, Chromium, Nickel, Phosphorous, Sulphur , Nitrogen . Element Weight % C 0.15  Mn 7.5-10.0  Si  1.00  Cr 17.0-19.0  Ni 4.0-6.0  P 0.06  S  0.03  N 0.25

CONCLUSION The compact design of ice crusher gives us the following liberties: 1) Small and easily portable 2) Doesn’t require much space 3) Consumer can enjoy clean and healthy crushed ice for making further food products. 4) As it is used seasonally it can be accessed as and when required.

Note:- If this compact design is considered for production at mass level other materials must be considered for the basic components.
