MOTIVATION: CHARADES (GESTURE JAM) INSTRUCTIONS: One student will stand at the front and act out one of the words from my lists. No speaking allowed. The rest of the class must then guess what the student is attempting to portray. The guessers (classmates) can shout-out their guesses. Whoever guesses correctly will be the one to act out the next word.

DIGITAL GRAPHICS

DIGITAL GRAPHICS It is the art of using computer technology to create digital artwork. It refers to any type of visual representation displayed on digital device. It has the aim of composing or producing a design for personal or business use. It can be applied to different materials like stationery, CD, silkscreen design, product packaging, posters, billboards, and company logos.

Computer Softwares that serve to create computer-generated artwork and produce digital graphic are the following:

KID PIX

ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

PAINT BRUSH

FIREWORKS

DIGITAL IMAGING It was developed to solve the problem in film cameras for scientific and military missions specifically the KH – 11 program during that time. It was during 1960s and 1970s that digital technology replaces the old film method. The first digital image was produced in 1920 by the British inventors, Harry G. Bartholomew and Maynard D. McFarlane. They developed the Bartlane cable picture transmission system. The said transmission machine was named after them.

Bartlane Cable Picture Transmission Machine functions as a telegraphic typewriter that converts the picture values as a combination of holes. In transmitting the picture, an ordinary photograph of the subject is made first. A negative film is obtained as a basis of the five tint plates made. These plates are made of zinc and when they are developed, they will have a certain amount of insulating surface over the plate thus generating an image from the transmitter and its receiver.

TYPES OF DIGITAL IMAGE FILE

1. TIFF. Tagged Image File Format (.tiff, . tif ) TIFF image contains the detailed image data. It is the uncompressed material of your image data. It is flexible in color (grayscale, CMYK, RGB) and content (layers, image tags), making the file big but easy to work on.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES ADVANTAGES: Image Format is easy to work on. DISADVANTAGES: File is too big.

Digital cameras store photos in JPEG format to save memory space allowing the user to take more photos on a camera memory card. This is also the file format used on the web, email and other programs because it is easy to be uploaded. 2. JPEG. Joint Photographic Experts Group (.jpeg, .jpg) JPEG Files are images that have been compressed to store a lot of information in a small-sized file. It loses image details during the compression and thus called “ lossy” compression.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES ADVANTAGES: File is small. Images saves memory space. It can be easily uploaded without suffering the quality of the image. DISADVANTAGES: Hard to work on for image editing and manipulation. Image looks “bit- mappy ” (jagged lines instead of straight lines).

It is frequently used for animations. It can be uploaded easily and be used for web but not for printing. 3. GIF. Graphics Interchange Format (.gif) GIF format compresses images different from JPEG. No details are lost in the compression but it is limited in color range and layers.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES ADVANTAGES: File is small. It is the best format for animations. DISADVANTAGES: It is not used for photography because of the limited number of color range.

4. PNG. Portable Network Graphics (. png ) PNG file format was created as an open format that allows for a full range of color and better compression.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES ADVANTAGES: Good for web images. Images with text and line art are better than .jpeg. DISADVANTAGES: For photograph, . png is not good as .jpeg. It creates a larger file.

5. RAW image file Files are called raw because they haven’t been processed. It cannot be edited or printed. It contains data from a digital camera. It contains uncompressed format. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristoffertrolle.com%2F2020%2Ffujifilm-sample-raw-files%2F&psig=AOvVaw3h07VOJ3j_oMShGFcWjR9u&ust=1722978216338000&source=images&cd=vfe&opi=89978449&ved=0CBQQjhxqFwoTCMDtiZfg3ocDFQAAAAAdAAAAABAE Fujifilm Sample Raw Files | Kristoffer Trolle

You can't print, or in fact do much of anything with a RAW file, you need to convert it into a usable file format (usually JPEG or TIFF) first. Think of RAW files as the negatives in film camera terms.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY Is a form of photography that uses a camera to capture images. The captured image is stored as a digital file ready for processing and viewing. It can also be developed in print form without chemical processing.

In Digital Photography, each image contains an array of data in digital form.

Characteristics of Digital Photographs: Digital photographs can be displayed, copied, stored, and printed. It has the ability to embed data with the image file (date, time, flash use, and model of camera). It has the ability to capture and store hundreds of photographs on the same media device in the digital camera. It has the ability to retouch the photo and apply filters.

CAMERA Camera is the tool used in capturing pictures. It is equipped with a storing system that can save captured image and video. A typical digital camera has the following parts:

Shutter Button – it is the mechanism that enables the camera to capture the image. Power Button – it is used to switch the camera on and off. Microphone – it is used to record sound. Speaker – it is used to hear the captured sound. Flash – it is used to provide light on low light situations. Lens – This is where the light enters to process the picture.

Tripod Mount Battery chamber cover USB Port Zoom Button Strap Holder Buttons Display Status Lamp USB Port – this is for USB output . It is used to connect the camera to a computer through a USB Connector. Tripod Mount – this is a socket found at the bottom of a camera. It is used to attach a tripod.

Battery chamber cover – it is used to hold the battery inside the chamber. Zoom – it is used to change the focus length. It can either be zoom in or zoom out. Status Lamp – it is an indicator that shows the condition of the camera before shooting. Display – it is the LCD screen found on the camera. It is also called the view finder. It is used to view photos before and after shooting. Strap holder – an eyelet used to place a strap. Buttons – this is the user control buttons. It ha buttons used to shoot, edit, and preview the photos.

CAMERA MEGAPIXELS Megapixel (MP) is a term that describes the camera’s picture element. A megapixel is equal to one million pixels. Megapixels are the little colored dots that a digital camera uses to record a picture. Megapixels indicate how much resolution or detail a camera can capture. A bigger MP means better image quality and sharper detail. Pictures with high megapixels can also be printed as large file.

STORAGE CAPACITY Your storage capacity tells how many pictures can be saved in your memory card. Big files can limit your storage capacity. A large-sized memory card can make you save more pictures. DIGITAL PHOTO IMPROVEMENT A pixel in a digital image has three components corresponding to the three basic colors : red, green, and blue. The number of bits used to represent a color (depth of color ) determines how many different colors an image have. The main principle of photo editing is to change the digital component of the picture.
