Importance of SUSPENSION BUSHES in a car

The suspension bushes are a critical component of the car with respect to safety, ride comfort and handling.

They are used to position and align the suspension and steering components such as shock absorbers, sway bars, and control arms.

The suspension bushes are used to connect the various moving arms and pivot joints to the chassis and other parts of the suspension.

These are designed to stand the torsional pressure of the vehicles.

The suspension bushes are made by using high-quality rubber that is securely bonded between inner and outer metal to give maximum axial, radial and torsional stiffness.

Importance of bushes

Even the hard bushes absorb the road shocks and enhance comfort as well as reduce noise and vibration.

Bushes need to be maintained in optimum condition as worn out bushes can cause rapid tire wire and wandering steering

For proper working, a bush must be able to compress to a precise degree and then return to its original position for better handling and safety.

They are made from a number of materials like rubber & urethane depending on its application like response characteristics, noise, and durability.

The bushings often take the form of a strong rubbery washer through which the suspension components pass and stay connected.

Functions of bushes

The rubber suspension bushings provide the cushion to the entire body of a car.

It minimizes the effects of jerks induced by rough terrains or a potholed road.

It provides stability to the car while on move and that results in improved performance and the tires are in greater contact with the road at all times.

It anchors the balance between steering and tires and prevents adverse effects on the overall alignment of the car.

Problems due to worn suspension bushings

There is clicking or snapping sound while turning the wheels and a squeaking sound whenever the car halts or the steering wheel moves.

A significant shift is observed in the car's steering alignment which causes the steering to pull to one side.

While going over bumps or a rough road, knocking and clunking noises coming from the suspensions.

The worn bushings cause vibrations in the steering wheel and that increases during acceleration.

You may also experience braking problems as the front end oscillates forward even after hard brakes are applied.
