INDIAN STREET FOOD Street food is a food obtainable from a street side vendor, often from a makeshift or portable stall Though we have a lot of street foods popular throughout the most parts of the country but we also have some regional street foods. 3
Contd. Lower in cost in comparison to restaurant meals. They reflect the traditional local cultures with an endless variety. Often available with their best tastes and flavour . 4
North Indian Street Food Available with a huge variety from very spicy food items to very sweet items. They are : Chole Bhature : Punjabi Dish. Famous in whole Northern and Central India. Taken as breakfast, l unch as well as dinner. 5
Contd. Aaloo Tikki : Most mouth-watering dish street food of India. Famous in whole India but comes with it’s original taste in Central and Eastern Uttar Pradesh including cities like Lucknow and Allahabad. Also a Royal Cuisines of Lucknow . 6
Contd. Litti Chokha : Traditional Dish in Eastern UP, Bihar And Jharkhand. Known for its simplicity and taste. Apart from being a now-a-days street food still prepared with special plans on Holidays and Picnics. 7
Contd. Kachori : Originally belongs to the Royal State of India – Rajasthan. Bikaneri Kachori is famous its own taste in Northern India. Other North Indian Street foods are Bread Pakode , Aaloo Parathe , Pani Puri , Dahi Jalebi,lavang lata , Tunde kabab , Samose , Cutlets etc. 8
East Indian Street Foods Known for its unique combination of Vegetarian, Non-Vegetarian, Spicy and Sweet foods. They are : Fish Fry/ Machh bhaja : Eaten as a snack in areas of West Bengal, Orissa and Assam. Made with different tastes and flavours in each region. 9
Contd. Jhal Muri A West Bengal delicious snacks made by mixing puffed rice and chanachur . Sometimes also prepared as a soup with tomato,pudina etc. Generally served with Thonga (paper packets) or with bowl. Other delicious items are Ghugni chat, Moghlai Paratha,Radhabollobi (type of kachori ). 10
Central India Street Foods This section is going to include the street foods from the regions of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. They are : Poha Jalebi : Unique combo of sweet and salty taste in the “heart of India” Madhya Pradesh. Served with special items of s ev , nukti and jalebi in Indore. 11
Contd. Vada Pav : Very popular in Mumbai and other regions of Maharashtra. Indian version of Burger. Pav stuffed with spicy vadas is served with fried chilies. 12
Contd. Dabeli : Dabeli Most popular street food in the Kutch Region of Gujarat. Also popular in the streets of Mumbai and Maharashtra. Other street foods also include cuisines like Dhoklas , Bombil fry etc. 13
South Indian Street Foods Includes the dishes from the states of AP, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana & Karnatka . They are : Idli sambhar : Most famous South Indian Dish. Served with a combination of chutney and sambhar . 14
Contd. Mirchi Bajji : Famous in the streets of Hyderabad. This is a stuffed green chilli dish served with lemon. Also available in other regions of India with different variations. Other popular dishes are Paddu,Biryani , Dosa , Rasam and curd rice etc. 15
Foreign-Indian Street Foods Momos Can call it the King of Street Foods in North India. Steamed dumplings with a combination different vegetables. Though just steamed but as tasty as any fried dish with it’s red chilli and tomato chutney. 16
Contd. Chow Mein: In simple words there is nothing better than Indian “ Chauuu -Min”. Are stir fried noodles. Still constantly evolving with the different flavours of India. Other popular street foods are Paties , Hot Dog, Chicken Lollipop etc. 17
