INTRODUCTION Inputs are the information or elements that we enter the system for processing. Output is the outcome of processing. The major objective of a system is to produce an output that has value to its user. Whatever the nature of the output it must be in line with the expectations of the intended user. A quality output is one, which meets the requirements of the end user and presents the information clearly.
INPUT DESIGN Inputs are the information or elements that we enter the system for processing. Input Design is the process of converting user oriented inputs to a computer based format. In an information system, input is the raw data which is processed to produce output. At some point of the input design, the developers have to consider the input devices together with PC, MICR, OMR, etc.
OBJECTIVES OF INPUT DESIGN To reduce input volume. Making input uncomplicated To design data entry and input procedures. To design input data records, data entry screens, user interface screens, etc. Assuring input meets the intended purpose. Making screens and forms attractive. Creating screens and forms that are consistent.
OUTPUT DESIGN Output is the outcome of processing. A major objective of a system is to produce an output that has value to its user. The design of output is the most important task of any system. During output design, developers identify the type of Outputs needed, and consider the necessary output controls and prototype report layouts.
OBJECTIVES OF OUTPUT DESIGN To develop the output design that meets the end users requirements. To deliver the appropriate quantity of output. To form the output in appropriate format and direct it to the right person. To develop output design that serves the intended purpose and eliminates the production of unwanted output. To make the output available on time for making good decisions.
CONCLUSION The most common source of data processing errors is inaccurate input data. Effective input design minimize errors made by data entry operators. The input design is the link between the information system and the user. A quality output is one, which meets the requirements of the end user and presents the information clearly. In any system results of processing are communicated to the users and to other system through outputs.
