1. Mango Mealy Bug Identification:- The mango mealybug ( Drosicha mangiferae ) is a pest of mango crops in Asia. The nymphs and females suck plant sap from inflorescences, tender leaves, shoots and fruit peduncles. As a result, the infested inflorescences dry up, affects the fruit set, causing fruit drop . Adults are oval, flat, body covered with white mealy powder. Males have one pair of black wings and are crimson red . 3
Nature of Damage The mango mealybug (Drosicha mangiferae) is a pest of mango crops in Asia. The nymphs and females suck plant sap from inflorescences, tender leaves, shoots and fruit peduncles. As a result, the infested inflorescences dry up, affects the fruit set, causing fruit drop . 4
LIFE CYCLE Egg Stage : The life cycle begins when the female mealybug lays eggs. These eggs are usually laid in a cottony mass, often found on the undersides of leaves, in leaf axils, or on stems. 5
NYMPH After hatching from the eggs, the young mealybugs, known as crawlers, emerge. These crawlers are small and mobile, and they move around the plant in search of suitable feeding sites . Once a crawler finds a suitable feeding site, it settles down and begins to feed. As it feeds, it goes through several molts, gradually growing larger. These immature stages are referred to as nymphs 6
3. ADULT After completing development, the nymphs molt into adult mealybugs. Adult mealybugs are wingless and have a waxy or powdery coating, giving them their characteristic appearance. They continue to feed on the plant sap and reproduce, starting the cycle anew by laying eggs. 7

2 . MANGO HOPPER Identification:- Nymph - Nymphs pale yellow, very active and hide in lower shoots or in cracks in the barks. The insect appears in February when mango trees come to flowering. Adult a. Idioscopus niveoparsus ; Adults: dark with wavy lines on wings and three spots on scutellum. b. I. clypealis ; Adults: small, light brown with dark spots on the vertex and two spots on scutellum. c. Amirtodus atkinsoni ; Adults: large, light brown with two spots on scutellum. 9
Nature of Damage Nymphs and adults suck the sap of inflorescence Withering Shedding of flower buds and flowers Presence of honey dew secretion on lower leaves and development of sooty mould. Clicking sound - movement of jassids amidst leaves. Hoppers provide shelter in the cracks and crevices of the barks on the tree 10
Life Cycle 1. Egg Stage Female mango leafhoppers lay eggs on the underside of mango leaves. The eggs are often laid in clusters and are tiny, oval-shaped, and translucent . 11
2. Nymph stage After a period of incubation, the eggs hatch into nymphs. Nymphs resemble adults but are smaller and lack fully developed wings. They go through several nymphal stages (instars) where they molt and grow . 12
3. Adult Stage After completing the nymphal stages, mango leafhoppers molt into adults. Adult leafhoppers have fully developed wings and are capable of flying. They continue to feed on mango leaves and reproduce 13
