INTRODUCTION An instructional aid is any device that assists an instructor in the student's learning process. They may be sight or sound devices, or a combination of both. Instructors use them to improve communication between themselves and their students, But the aids do not substitute for instruction; they are used to support, supplement or reinforce teaching.

Instructional aids are used in the classroom to encourage learning A nd thereby make it easier and interesting. The materials like charts, maps, models, concrete objects, film strips, projector, radio, television etc. Which helps a teacher for effective teaching may be called instructional aid.

DEFINITION An instructional aid is any device that assists an instructor in the student's learning process. They may be sight or sound devices, or a combination of both.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD INSTRUCTIONAL AID They should be meaningful and purposeful Simple Cost effective and cheap Easily portable Large enough to be seen by everyone They should be accurate in every aspect They should be up to date They should motivate learners Adapted to the intellectual maturity of the students

LEARNING AIDS Every teacher wants the teaching-learning process to be effective. Whatever the teaches should be listened carefully, understood clearly, learnt properly leaving an everlasting impression on the mind of the student. One of the outstanding developments in the educational technology in recent years is the increased use of teaching aids in teaching learning process. An excellent way to enhance your educational atmosphere is with teaching aids. The possibilities for teaching aids are unlimited. Using your imagination and thinking outside the box are keys to discovering new and unique teaching aids for your classroom.

CLASSIFICATION OF LEARNING AIDS PROJECTED AIDS NON PROJECTED AIDS ACTIVITY AIDS

PROJECTED AIDS  projected aids are visual instructional devices which are shown with a projector are called projected aids . Examples: slides, filmstrip, silent films, cartoons, etc. projected through an opaque projector (epidiascope), or an over head projector . It helps the process of learning that is motivated, classification and stimulation . It makes dynamic learning experience more concrete realistic and clarity . It provides significant gains in thinking and reasoning.

NON PROJECTED AIDS Non projected Aids are Visual instructional devices which are simply presented without any projection equipment are non projected aids . Example: blackboard, chart, etc.   Non projected aids are classified in to 1. Graphic 2. Display boards 3. Three dimensional aids
