INTRODUCTIONS Intramuros is home to Spanish-era landmarks, it has witnessed the life of the Filipinos for centuries and it held an important part to our country’s history. The group decided to explore this place to revive the patriotism in the hearts of the youth and to educate them about the importance of history in our lives and what completes us as a Filipino.
REASON WHY INTRAMUROS The pandemic has taken over the world for the last 2 years now, It prevented the youth from exploring many historical places. The main goal of this documentary is to showcase the beauty and the history of Intramuros and Luneta park. Allowing the youth to gain knowledge even without physically visiting it themselves. When time comes that the fear of the pandemic has brought are no longer present, the youth can witness it themselves with willingness and eagerness to learn.
PLACES Fort Santiago Dungeon Manila Cathedral Casa Manila Museum Baluarte de Santiago Luneta Park
FORT SANTIAGO a headquarters of the armies of several foreign powers in Philippine history Fort Santiago, worked in 1593 is a bastion worked by Spanish guide and lead representative Miguel López de Legazpi for the new settled city of Manila in the Philippines. The safeguard fort is essential for the designs of the walled city of Manila alluded to as Intramuros .
MANILA CATHEDRAL the Prime Basilica of the Philippines and the highest seat of the archbishop in the country . Manila Cathedral is recognized as the main Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines. Located in the Plaza de Roma, Intramuros , its official name is Manila Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica and is the seat of the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Manila.
CASA MANILA MUSEUM An ample background of one of the destinations that can be found in Intramuros , Casa Manila portrays the colonial lifestyle during Spanish colonization (19 th century). The architecture of this museum is very antiqued and obsolete. This museum also preserves artworks, sculptures and other decorative objects that the wealthy family enjoyed accumulating back then. In totality, this museum offers a glimpse of a bygone era.
BULUARTE SAN DIEGO the oldest stone fort in Manila built between late 1500's and early 1600's during the Spanish era. Baluarte de San Diego dates from the end of the 16th century, when it was constructed as part of the fortifications of the walled city of Intramuros by a Jesuit priest, Antonio Sedeno . Originally named Nuestra Senora de Guia (Our Lady of Guidance) , the bastion was primarily designed to repel invasion.
LUNETA PARK it is the location where the country's National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal was executed . Formerly called “ Luneta ” from the French word Lunette which means a cresent -shaped fort, it was the site of “La Calzada ”, the social hub of Manila's elite . It was also used by the Spaniards as an execution ground for rebels and activist. Dr. Jose Rizal was executed in Rizal Park on December 30, 1896.
