the 6 categories of
addictive drugs.
You can remember
the different
categories by using

Possible Effects of Cannabis

Hallucinogens causes a hallucinations. Hallucinations
involve sensing things while awake that appear to be

L.S.D. (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) –acid is a slang term
P.C.P. (Phencyclidine) –angel dust is a slang term
mushrooms
ecstasy
HALLUCINOGENS

Hallucinations, panic may occur
Tolerance develops
Effects may recur (“flash backs”) even after use is
discontinued
Possible birth defects in users’ children
Depression, confusion, irrational behavior may
occur
Overdose can cause convulsions, coma, and death
Possible Effects of Hallucinogens

Inhalant abuse is inhaling substances and fumes in
order to get a chemical reaction in the brain .This
means people are using common household products
to purposely get high illegally.
gas
cleaning products
whiteout
spray paint
INHALANTS

Loss of coordination, confusion, hallucinations
may occur
An overdoes can cause
convulsions, coma, and death
Psychological dependence can develop
Permanent damage to the
lungs, brain, liver, bone marrow can result
Possible Effects of Inhalants

ILLEGAL
heroin
opium
NARCOTICS
LEGAL –with a doctor

codeine
OxyContin
Narcotics lowers perception
of pain

Lethargy, apathy, loss of judgment and

Sleeping Pills
Valium
DEPRESSANTS
ILLEGAL
Barbiturates

Tobacco (nicotine)
(must be age 18)
Caffeine
Amphetamines
STIMULANTS

Stimulants speed up action of the central
