Analysis

Opportunities in Animation You should have Action plan

1. Identify and decide the kind of work or service you want to do . You need to make sure that you have knowledge and complete understanding of all the processes involved in producing animation films from pre-production to post production stages. Discuss USP or Unique Selling Proposition.

2. Build a team . Simply assist you in different tasks or to create a specialist out of each one. “You don’t know everything” Even if you do it is always good to have someone who knows every little detail of a specific task to ensure the quality of the job

3. Create a working name A working name or your business name is what people will have to remember when referring to your service.

“Guidelines about what your working name should be” Reflect what your business is all about. Create good impression and can easily be remembered. Suggest that you’re running a company “not a one man show”

4. Create a business plan Summary that defines what you think is needed to launch your business.

Elements of a business plan Business concept- Defines the business as a whole and gives insight on what product or services will be sold, its target market, the product Unique Selling Preposition. Financial overview- A projection or estimate of your yearly income and expenses to see if in fact the business will be profitable and worthwhile.

Capital requirements- States the amount of money you will need to start the business and to operate or expand it as well as the source. Company’s legal status- States relevant information about the company itself(“Proprietary, partnership, corporation etc. Goals and milestones- refers to the targets and indicators that the company must achieve in order to manifest.

Don’t Like to be an Entrepreneur

Mechanical animation -is all about modeling parts and pieces of different objects or machinery before it goes on production. Science and engineering- more on 3D animation production Forensic animation- uses mostly 3D animation production as well, to recreate crime scene or events to help criminal investigations.

Medical Animation- Accurate modeling and also mainly use 3D animation. Architecture and Landscaping- Environmental and technical modeling. Computer game animation- Entertainment and more exciting to do. Web and graphic animation- Common and easiest to start on your own.  

Positions of being an animator In-between artist- creates the transition images for the character’s movement between two key frames. Character rigger- manipulates the geometry of the character as it moves or interacts within the scene. Render-wrangler- monitors and controls the rendering process with either one or few rendering computers up to hundreds of computers as in a rendering farm.  

Positions of being an animator Stop motion animator- uses different modeling media like puppets or clay to produce animated films. Background painter- responsible for creating background. Lighting technician- creates light rigs for shots and is responsible for ensuring the correct lighting and shadow effects in the animated film.

Positions of being an animator Color key artist- develops the color scheme for the backgrounds used in the animated film. Storyboard artist- responsible for drawing the scenes that will be used in the animated film. Concept artist- creates the overall visual concept for an animated film Independent film-maker- produce animated films outside or major animation studios.

Application Create your own working name Create your own business plan that includes what type of animation industry you have and list down the type of animators you have in your company. (provide sample)

Sample Company Name: Business Plan:” Business concept, Financial overview, Capital requirements, Company’s legal status, Goals and milestones. Type of animation industry: ex: forensic animation. Animators: Ex : In-between artist, etc.
