The also begin to develop their language skills and can start to communicate using words and simple sentences. Socially, toddlers become more aware of others and may start to engage in parallel play with their peers. At this age children experience rapid growth and development in three main domains like, physical, cognitive, and social-emotional.
3 Domain of toddler development 1.Physical development: This domain focuses on the growth and coordination of a toddler's body. It includes milestones like learning to walk, improving fine motor skills, and developing hand-eye coordination. Example: walking, running, riding a tricycle, kicking a ball, jumping, etc…
Cont … 2.Cognitive development: This domain involves the development of thinking, problem-solving , and language skills. Toddlers start to understand cause and effect, imitate others, and use simple words and phrases to communicate. Example: memory, following instruction, attention span, begins counting and identifying shapes, etc…
Cont … 3.Social-emotional development: This domain is all about how toddlers interact with others and manage their emotions. They begin to form relationships, show empathy, and express their feelings. It's an important time for learning social skills and developing a sense of self. Example: language, play with peers, show empathy with others, etc….
Appropriate practices for toddlers 1.Sensory Play: Encourage toddlers to explore different textures, colors, and materials through sensory play. You can setup a sensory bin with items like rice, sand, or water for them to explore and manipulate . 2.Gross-Motor Play: Toddlers have lots of energy, so it's important to provide opportunities for them to move and develop their gross motor skills. Setup an obstacle course, go for walks or play games that involve running, jumping, and climbing .
Cont …. 3.Language Development: Talk, read, and sing to your toddler. Engage in conversations, ask questions, and encourage them to express themselves. This helps develop their language skills and fosters their cognitive development . 4.Fine Motor Activities: Provide activities that promote their fine motor skills, such as drawing with crayons, playing with play dough, or stacking blocks. These activities strengthen their hand eye coordination and dexterity .
Cont … 5.Social Interaction: Encourage playdates or playgroups where toddlers can interact and learn from their peers. This helps them develop social skills, sharing, and taking turns . ( Every child is unique, so it's important to observe and follow their interests and abilities . And most importantly ,have fun and enjoy these special moments with your little one!)
