Depth and DATA Typical operations: Logging: to know formation (rock) properties which can tell us if hydrocarbon is there Casing & Cementing: to know if well we constructed has good integrity Perforating: to connect well to hydrocarbon reservoir allowing hydrocarbon to flow Producing & Monitoring: monitor production performance and well integrity Intervention: mechanical intervention from slickline operations Unconventional operations: Drilling: pipe recovery in case drilling string (drill pipe) gets stuck

Literally, wireline means electrical wire which can provide mechanical strength on top of electrical conductivity. What does wireline tell us? Wireline provide electrical conductivity for power and measurement data transmission while giving mechanical strength for toolstring conveyance The key of wireline is downhole measurement where it can measure formation properties with high resolution quality (up to 3.3 Mbps) And, ultimate goal of wireline is to provide customer superior downhole measurement at best data quality with minimum lead time What is it Wireline (电缆测井) ? 6 CBL-VDL Cement Bond Logging

Operations Rig up (R/U 支摊 ) Run in hole (RIH 仪器下井 ) TD (Total Depth 到达井底 ) Repeat pass( 重复段) Logging pass (测量段) Correlation pass (较深段) Station log (静止测量) Shooting pass (射孔段) High tension (高张力) Break Weakpoint (拉断弱点) Fishing (打捞) Pull out of hole (POOH 出井 ) Rig down (R/D 收摊 ) Common terms in wireline operations Bottom of the well Stationary measurement Or perforation shooting Weakpoint snaps

Conventional (gravitational) logging, Tractor conveyed logging, Drill-pipe conveyed logging (ThruBIT and Tough Logging Condition: TLC) Why can’t conventional logging work every time? Typical wireline operations Reference: https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/earth-and-planetary-sciences/horizontal-drilling Tractor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9EY9XgYUiU Tractor

ThruBIT ThruBIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtqwTjQPU2M

Tough Logging Condition (TLC)

Conventional Pros: Simplest deployment Maximum tool capacity Cons: Up to some deviation ThruBIT Pros: Operationally safe to risk of stuck Can be deployed in cleaning trip Cons: Only ThruBIT family is supported Tractor Pros: Simple deployment Few tool combination limitation Cons: Logging while tractoring is not possible Tough Logging Condition Pros: Maximum tool capacity Operationally safe to risk of stuck Cons: Increased operation complexity What is good and bad about each logging model? Operational Duration

To make it simple, wireline services can be categorized broadly as open-hole or cased-hole services where wireline operates with or without casing and cement. Open-hole services: direct formation evaluation Cased-hole services: well integrity logging, perforation, production logging Typical wireline services 13 CBL-VDL Cement Bond Logging 13 CBL-VDL Cement Bond Logging

Petrophysics( 岩石物理学) , Geology (地质学) , Reservoir (油藏学) Example of open-hole services ORA Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXxWzDHm6tQ

Well Integrity (井筒完整性) , Perforation (射孔) , Production (生产井测井) Example of cased-hole services

Why BGCers need to understand WIRELINE Real Challenges of Wireline : Logging “blind” when tool is in Hole --- Emergency Tool exposed in HPHT environment, Tool aging, failure prone --- Tool failure, data compromised Software issue/ Data Accuracy --- Bug Embrace digital --- Company sustainability Remember the ultimate goal of wireline is to provide customer superior downhole measurement at best data quality with minimum lead time . So, it is our job to help wireline achieve their goal! Wireline 4.0 – WL Automation

Quiz Time Raise your hand, and one at a time to answer There are gifts for participants

Physically, it is electrical wire that have mechanical strength that can hold tension during downhole operation. Operationally, it is a workflow that measure formation properties by lowering down toolstring to do the measurement in the well before the section to be measured. Commercially, it is business line that generates revenue to the company by measuring formation properties and giving the data to the customer. Quiz 1: what is it wireline?

Quiz 2: why can wireline give high resolution downhole measurement at relatively fast logging speed? Because of downhole telemetry system, wireline toolstring can transmit data at maximum of 3.3 Mbps. What does it tell us? That’s just raw measurement where it gets computed again at surface acquisition system. Real data generation rate at surface is beyond 3.3 Mbps. So, when dealing with data transmission or data structure we should bare in mind that data flux from wireline can really stress or break our system.

Ultimate goal of wireline is to provide customer downhole measurement at best data quality with minimum lead time What does it tell us? It means; we, as a technology center, can help them out by facilitating data acquisition through a lean user journey that can minimize total turnaround time from data acquisition till data delivery to customer. Quiz 3: what is ultimate goal of wireline operation?
