Importance of Agriculture Agriculture is an important part of human society. It provides food, clothing, and other materials that are necessary for survival. Agriculture also helps to maintain the ecological balance and provide jobs for people. Without agriculture the existence of life would not be possible. Major types: Cultivation of Land & Breeding of Animals / Animal Husbandry. 1. It is main source of living being to exist. 2. It provides food and fiber for all the people all over the world. 3. It is the main source of income for farmer and rural communities . 4. It is the major sector of global economy . 5. Agriculture is important for maintaining ecological balance.
The Internet of Things (IoT) describes the network of physical objects—“things”—that are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet. These devices range from ordinary household objects to sophisticated industrial tools. With more than 7 billion connected IoT devices today, experts are expecting this number to grow to 10 billion by 2020 and 22 billion by 2025 we can connect everyday objects—kitchen appliances, cars, thermostats,—to the internet via embedded devices, seamless communication is possible between people, processes, and thing What is IOT?
Why IOT for Agriculture 1. POPULATION: Due to the unexpected growth of population it is not possible to produce the enough amount of food with the traditional method of farming to sustain each life. Population growth will increase demand for food, which will drive up prices, it will increase the need for land, water and other resources, which will ultimately lead to shortage of resources. 2. CLIMATE CHANGE: Effects of climate change is disturbing the nature. Flood and drought makes the soil unfit for cultivation of any types of crops. When coupled with warming water temperatures brought on by climate change, runoff can lead to depleted oxygen levels in water bodies. Hypoxia can kill fish and other marine animals . It can also affect their ability to find food and habitat, which in turn could harm the coastal societies and economies that depend on those ecosystems.
3. POLLUTION: T he disposal of industrial and agricultural waste in local bodies of water. As a result, the crops are exposed to water, which has small amounts of mercury, arsenic, lead, and cadmium dissolved in it. The process of agricultural pollution becomes harder to fight when such water poisons livestock and causes crop failure. The plastic waster thrown in water have the negative impact of the water animals. This make the decrease in fish population and effect pishiculture .
Advantage of IoT in Agriculture IoT can provide a number of advantages for agriculture, including: 1. Data collection: IoT can help farmers to more accurately predict weather patterns and crop yields, which can lead to increased efficiency and accuracy. 2. Increased safety: IoT can help to improve safety by providing real-time information about the health and status of crops and livestock, which can help to prevent accidents and injuries. 3. Increased sustainability: IoT can help to improve sustainability by helping farmers to more accurately manage resources and reduce waste.
4. Increased flexibility: IoT can help to increase flexibility by allowing farmers to remotely manage crops and livestock. 5. Increased productivity: IoT can help to increase productivity by providing farmers with real-time information and produce lage amount of good products. 6. Less damage to crops: IoT can help to increase sustainability by helping farmers to more accurately manage resources and reduce waste.
IoT equipment used in Agriculture Machine Navigation It can be used to detect the fertility of land whether the land is suitable to grow that type of crops or not. It can predict the best time to sow the seed of the cropos . REMOTE SENSING IN AGRICULTURE It is revolutionizing the way data is acquired from different nodes in a farm' IoT-based remote sensing utilizes sensors placed along with the farms like weather stations for gathering data, which is transmitted to analytical tools for analysis. It can be used for crop monitoring, to check the suistanable weather condition for crops and to check the soil quality
Harvesting Robotics Utilizing agribots to pick crops is solving the problem of labor shortages. Working the delicate process of picking fruits and vegetables these innovative machines can operate 24/7. A combination of image processing and robotic arms is used by these machines to determine the fruits to pick hence controlling the quality. DRONES IN AGRICULTURE It used to enhance and optimize various farming activities such as crop monitoring, crop spraying, soil analysis, and mapping. In fact, agriculture is one of the major sectors to incorporate drones. Drones equipped with sensors and cameras are used for imaging, mapping, and surveying farms. There are ground-based drones and aerial drones. Ground drones are bots that survey the fields on wheels.
A few use cases implemented for IoT ▶ Monitoring ▶ Basic cameras for monitoring the field / livestock. ▶ Intelligent cameras – motion detection with buzz / alarm, smart fishery. ▶ Aerial Monitoring systems using drone ▶ Irrigation ▶ Remotely operated irrigation systems ▶ Smart irrigation controllers (Sensors / Forecasts / Plant-care information) ▶ Soil moisture / leaf wetness / Temperature based automation
▶ Automation ▶ Aerial planting techniques to sow seeds ▶ Pest detection using Infrared sensors ▶ Harvesting techniques for crop readiness detection and automation
