Is the art and science of analyzing the color and structure of the iris of the eye to gain valuable health information. The study of the iris, particularly of its color, markings, changes etc., as associated with disease. ( acc to 27 th edition of Dorlands Illustrated medical dictionary ) It means of gaining understanding and becoming enlightened about the body. It is controversial because of its struggle for acceptance by medicine authority as a valid examination method. IRIDOLOGY
Studying iridology is learning its philosophy of health and disease. It is taking time to explore its territory, learn its unique landmarks, and practice its principles.
The word ‘IRIS’ stems from Greek and means ‘rainbow’. It is the portion of the eye surrounding the pupil and giving the eye its distinctive color. (it is the color of the iris that defines your baby blues or bashful browns.) Iris is most distinctively colored portion of the eye. “Your iris is your personal rainbow” Another meaning of iris is ‘halo’ (a glow or a ring of light around a head or person in art) . The iris surrounds the pupil of the eye and might easily thought of as a kind of halo encircling it. IRIS
STRUCTURE OF EYE
A technique once known and practiced by only few. Iridology is being discovered by a greater number of people. Founded in the late 19 th century in Hungary. Iris analysis is in growing use in most of Europe, as well as in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, South America, Asia, and the United States. Idea of iridology, is nearly 2000 years old, possibly even older. The idea was found in the BIBLE (6 th chapter of book of St Matthew, in verse 22, it read, “the light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light”. ) “The light of the body in the eye: so if your eye is pure, your whole body shall be full of light”. Using iridology, we can see how ‘purity’ or ‘integrity’ of the iris reflects the condition of tissues everywhere in the body. HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHTS
Two European men who ‘rediscovered’ the idea of iris analysis in the 19 th century are considered today to share the title of “ Father of Iridology” Dr. I gnatz Von Peczely Nils Liljequist regarded as founding fathers of the science and art of iridology. In Germany, Erdmann Leopold Stephanus and Emanuel Felke taught iridology to numerous students. Even now the Felke Institute is helping to develop and promote the science and art of iridology. Henry Edward Lane, an Austrian medical doctor. He in turn, taught Dr. Henry Lindlahr , who spread the news of this new form of analysis through various publications in North America. Dr. Lane wrote 1 st Iridology book called “Iridology – The diagnosis from the eye” As a student of Dr Lane, Dr Lindlahr gave iridology serious study and applied it in his work in natural therapeutics. Dr R M McLain, a chiropractor and iridologist of California also a greastest contributor. J Haskel Kritzer wrote a book, ‘The book of iris diagnosis’.
Lindlahr said, the eye is not only as the ancients said, “the mirror of the soul” but it also reveals changing conditions of every part and organ of the body. The iris of the eye contains an immense number of minute nerve filaments, which receive impressions from every nerve trunk in the body. EVERY ORGAN AND PART OF THE BODY IS REPRESENTED IN THE IRIS IN A WELL DEFINED AREA, and the nerve filaments, muscle fibers and minute blood vessels in these areas portray by certain SIGNS and COLOR PIGMENTS changing conditions in the corresponding part or organ.
