Job Description
Operations Engineer - OpenStack-based Cisco CVIM Cloud Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Engineer to join our team and support the operation of an OpenStack-based Cisco CVIM (Cloud Virtualized Infrastructure Manager) cloud. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, and reliability of the cloud infrastructure that hosts the Packet Core Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) of a large Service Provider (SP). You will work closely with cross-functional teams to manage and optimize the cloud environment, monitor VNFs, troubleshoot issues, and ensure smooth operations. The ideal candidate has a strong background in OpenStack, Cisco CVIM, and experience in operating and maintaining cloud-based Packet Core VNFs.
Responsibilities Manage and maintain the OpenStack-based Cisco CVIM cloud infrastructure, including the compute, storage, and network resources. Deploy, configure, and scale the Packet Core Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) such as PGW, SGW, and PCRF within the cloud environment. Monitor the performance and availability of the cloud infrastructure and VNFs, proactively identify issues, and implement necessary optimizations. Collaborate with network architects, VNF vendors, and cross-functional teams to design and implement cloud configurations and policies based on business and service requirements. Coordinate with vendors and service providers to troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure and VNF-related issues, including managing support tickets and following up on problem resolution. Perform capacity planning activities to anticipate future resource requirements and recommend necessary upgrades or enhancements to meet network demands. Implement and enforce security measures within the cloud environment, including access controls, firewall rules, and security patching. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements by performing regular audits and assessments of the cloud infrastructure. Participate in the testing, validation, and deployment of new VNFs or updates to existing VNFs within the cloud environment. Collaborate with the network operations center (NOC) and service assurance teams to ensure seamless service delivery and incident resolution for Packet Core VNFs. Respond to cloud infrastructure and VNF-related incidents, investigate root causes, and implement appropriate remediation measures. Document cloud infrastructure configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and operational processes for knowledge sharing and future reference. Stay up to date with the latest trends, advancements, and best practices in OpenStack, Cisco CVIM, and cloud technologies. Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to cloud-related emergencies or incidents outside of regular business hours.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Extensive hands-on experience in managing and supporting OpenStack-based cloud environments, preferably with Cisco CVIM. Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure components, including compute, storage, and networking in an OpenStack environment. Familiarity with cloud orchestration and management tools, such as Heat, Horizon, and Neutron. Experience deploying and managing Packet Core Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) such as PGW, SGW, and PCRF within a cloud environment. Knowledge of network protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, IPsec, VLANs, and routing. Proficiency in scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Ansible) for cloud operations and management. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex cloud-related issues and perform root cause analysis. Relevant certifications in cloud technologies, such as OpenStack Certified Administrator (COA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional - Cloud (CCNP Cloud), are highly desired. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders at all levels.
