KAKINADA DEEP WATER PORT BY NIRMMAL ANUSH R 21414039 BARANNATH P 21414012

INTRODUCTION Kakinada Deep Water Port was commissioned by the Government of AP in November 1997 with a quay length of 610 Meters. The Kakinada Seaports took over operations when the port was privatized in 1999. Ten years later, the port was expanded to 2,500 meters of quay length for multi-product handling and stand-alone facility for off-shore supplies for deep sea exploration. It is located on the East Coast of India. It is in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh and is strategically located between major Ports of Vishakhapatnam and chennai . The Port has several quality certifications including the ISO 9001, the ISO 14001 & the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSAS) 18001. It is also an International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) certified port.

OUR VISION Kakinada Seaports Ltd aspires to position the port to meet challenges in a dynamic environment and ever-turbulent marketplace while offering performance and efficiency for port users. Our focus is on providing prompt, efficient, safe and integrated services to customers while maintaining world class industry standards with a commitment to socio-economic development of the Nation.

OUR WORK As a leading seaport, Kakinada supports miners, manufacturers and growers throughout India as they sell goods and services profitably to countries around the globe. Agricultural products, granite and minerals move through a vast network of modern railways and highways like NH-16 and NH-216 to Kakinada where they are shipped to consumers in dozens of countries. Kakinada Seaport is known for its strategic development of service modules to meet unique requirements of specialized port users. To provide premier customer service, Kakinada Seaports Ltd has always embraced modern practices, systems and technology to excel in port management and remain uniquely positioned as a multi product dynamic port handling liquid, bulk and break bulk cargoes. Kakinada is part of a Special Economic Zone and a proposed “Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region”. It is a hub to all the deep sea exploratory activity in the region due to its deep-water sea port and its proximity to the gas fields.

BERTHS AND VESSELS IN KDWP KDWP presently has four berths. It enjoys multi-modal connectivity by road, rail and pipelines (for liquid cargo). The total vessels handled by the KDWP have increased substantially to 3,755 vessels in Financial Year (FY) 09 from around 555 vessels in FY 04, mainly attributable to the significant increase in Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV) traffic to 2,400 vessel turnarounds from 171 vessel turnarounds in FY 04. The cargo vessel traffic at the port has also increased to 1,062 vessels in FY 09 from 304 vessels in FY 04 in line with the increase in cargo throughput. The total cargo handled at the Kakinada port increased to 14.5 million tonnes in FY 09 from 5.6 million tonnes in FY 04 at a CAGR of 21%. Of the various cargo items handled, there is a relatively high dependence on some items like iron-ore (24%); fertilisers (19%); Fertiliser Raw Materials (19%); edible oil (13%) and coal (10%) for the bulk of the volumes.

cont... Three berths at KDWP were constructed by Govt.AP at a cost of Rs. 293 crore, of which the Asian Development Bank provided a loan of Rs. 242 crore. The post tax project IRR for Phase 1 and Phase 2 developments as per the financial proposal submitted by the concessionaire was 18.46%.
