About Kaohly Her
Kaohly Vang Her is a dedicated public servant, educator, and finance professional who has
spent her career improving the lives of Saint Paul residents. Born in Laos and raised in
Minnesota after her family resettled as refugees, Kaohly’s life story is one of perseverance,
hard work, and service. Her parents’ experience as union workers and community
contributors instilled in her a deep belief in fairness, opportunity, and compassion —
values that continue to guide her leadership today.
Before stepping into public office, Kaohly worked for over 15 years in the financial services
sector, gaining critical experience in fiscal management and accountability. Later, she
served as Policy Director in Mayor Melvin Carter’s administration, where she led key

initiatives including the creation of the College Savings Account program for every Saint
Paul newborn — a program designed to help families invest in their children’s futures.
Since being elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2018, Kaohly has served
as Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore, leading with integrity and collaboration. She has worked
tirelessly to expand affordable housing, improve education, and champion public safety
reforms that prioritize both accountability and community trust.
