MCGM BHANDUP PUMP CORROCOAT One of the remarkable project completed by VEMC is the corrocoating of various pump at MCGM Bhandup complex, leading to tremendous energy saving. Following are the few applications and features of the corrocoat. MCGM BHANDUP PUMP CORROCOAT The Bhandup complex is an interesting project for VEMC, the challenge was not just to deliver an efficient system but deliver a cost effective solution. The work of refurbishment along with complete overhauling of 4 Nos. of 246 MLD (Million Litres per Day) and 2 Nos. of 82 MLD(Million Litres per Day) WILO Mather and Platt make centrifugal pump. Generally, these pumps have a long life placed anywhere between 20-25 years. However, over a period of time, the efficiency drops down due to the constant contact with water & continuous running of the pump, as in case of Bhandup Complex. As power required to run these heavy duty pump is also very high, so even small improvement in the efficiency would result in big savings on power. VIJAY ENGINEERING AND MACHINERY COMPANY
MCGM BHANDUP PUMP CORROCOAT It had been 25 to 30 years for MCGM to buy these pumps from M&P. These pumps runs continously and supply water to Mumbai suburbs. To know, how much the efficiancy of pump has dropped VEMC suggested an energy audit of the pumps installed at MCGM Bhandup Complex , for which these pumps were takken to kirloskar wadi plant. After the complete study of the pump, VEMC presented Two solutions. Replacing the system, which is a huge investment of time and money. Making use of efficiancy improvement coating (Corro-coate Fluiglide) Client decided to go with sencond option of using efficiancy improvement coating which can also be used for referbishment of worn out parts of the pump. 40 KW MICROHYDRO TURBINE AT TANSA DAM “Micro” Hydro systems typically refer to hydro power systems that have a power output of Up to 100 KW. (In this case it’s 40KW) The systems are mostly designed to provide power for household use and small communities. The major advantage of this system when compared to other renewable energy technologies is that, if enough water is available, it can provide a constant and/or predictable power supply, where as other technologies (specifically wind and solar power) provide intermittent or unpredictable energy. VEMC KEY ROLE: VEMC conducted site survey and observed that there is a potential for generating power without compromising the water supply and accordingly suggested MCGM to install a hydro turbine for generating electricity to meet their day to day power requirement. REPORT MADE BY VEMC: Tansa Dam is one of the key Dams to supply drinking water to Mumbai city. Water being supplied through cross country pipelines having potential head and this head could be used to generate electricity, which latter can be used in vicinity as the Dam being situated in rural area where energy from MSEB is not regular. Hence, this project came into existence where MCGM awarded us with the contract for Designing , Supplying , Installation , and Testing & Commissioning of the system at site. 40 KW MICROHYDRO TURBINE AT TANSA DAM VEMC has provided the PAT system (Pump as turbine system) a M/s. Kirloskar Brothers Limited make pump. The system were then be tested at kirloskar plant for the duty parameters, supplied and installed on existing pipeline. The potential energy stored by means of available head, would be used to generate 40 KW of energy. Now the system is operational and generating 40KW energy out of which 30KW is used by MCGM Tansa dam site office and 10KW is being supplied to near by locality.
