LAKES.
1. What do we mean by term ‘LAKE’?
A Lake is a large depression on surface of any land
form that is filled with water.
2. Due to which reasons a lake can be formed?
A lake can be formed due many reasons such as:-
Tectonic movements of diverging plates.
Glacier action of deposition & melting of snow
Due to volcanic eruption.
Due to meteorites action.
Due to earthquakes & landslide.

TYPES OF NATURAL LAKES.
Fresh Water Lake Saline Water Lake
As the name suggests these
lakes hold amount of pure
water.
They are present in less
number in world.
They are mostly formed due
to glacier actions.
They are mostly found in
Mountainous region.
They are formed of salty
water.
They are present in huge
number.
They are mostly formed due
to saline soil.
They are mostly found in arid
regions and regions near sea.

WULAR LAKE.

It is the biggest fresh water lake in India.
It is formed due to tectonic movements. It was formed after
the formation of Himalayas.
It is located in Bandipora district in the state Jammu &
Kashmir.
This lake is fed by Jhelum River.
Length: 16 km
Inflow source: Jhelum River
Outflow source: Jhelum River.

DAL LAKE.
Dal Lake is in Srinagar.
The urban lake is the second largest in the state.
The shore line of lake is about 15.5 Km.
Area: 22 km*km
Length: 7.44 km
Width: 3.5 km

CHILKA LAKE.

It is a water lagoon, spread over the Puri, Khurda & Ganjam
districts of Orissa State on the east coast of India, at the mouth of
the Daya river.
Area: 1165 km*km

SAMBHAR LAKE.
It is the largest inland salt water lake in India.
It is bowl-shaped lake.
Length: 35.5 km
Mean depth: 60 cm

INLAND DRAINAGE
SYSTEM.
What do we mean by the term ‘INLAND
DRAINAGE’?
Inland drainage is that drainage in which rivers do not
reach an ocean or sea but empty their waters in a lake
or an inland sea.
Main Characteristic of Inland Drainage:
i.In inland drainage, streams join lakes or inland seas.
ii.They are fed by rainy water.
iii.During rains they experience flash floods.
iv.During dry season they get dried up.

WHERE INLAND DRAINAGE IS
FOUND IN INDIA?
Inland Drainage is found in desert of Rajasthan &
Aksai Chin area of Jammu & Kashmir.
