Language Laboratory It is a vary popular technical innovation in teaching field It is a self learning device It enables to hear the language spoken from recorded topic It concentrate on listening and speaking It aims at the development of correct pronunciation , intonation , and accent
It also develop the ability to use the words , idioms and phrases It helps the learners to communicate his ideas Its purpose is essentially individualistic It allows much time for oral and auditory experiences It provides drill practice
Equipment and process of a language lab It has three section Hearing booths- it consists of twenty hearing booths . In each hearing booth there is a chair and a table at which a student can work It is provided with a telephone connection to the advisors booth, earphones and switches for selecting the tapes from the control room for play and hearing the same for recording his own voice, stopping , rewinding and replaying Each booth has four feet height walls or partitions so that each students works without disturbing others By pressing the key the student indicates the lesson he wants if needed he can communicate with the advisor and seek his assistance
The console or advisors room – it has one or two tapes with master tapes and special equipments to monitor any students and thereby two-way communication is ensured the console has the following Distribution switches-for distributing the recordings from the master tape Monitoring switches – for enabling the teacher to listen any student as he works to correct errors Intercom switches – for two way communication with any individual students Group call switches – for announcement to a particular group of student listing to a tape All call Switches – for announcement to all students
Control room – has all tapes , records and other equipments of the language lab properly indexed and stored
Procedures The teacher first plays a master tape Students listen to the copy of the tape and makes some oral response which are recorded in responding equipments Listing to the tape and response recorded and correcting it
