When grass takes over a week to recover and
clippings thin out, it’s time to ease off mowing, a
clear sign growth has slowed and the lawn is
entering rest mode.
Swap mowing for autumn care: feed with low-
nitrogen fertilizer, aerate for airflow, and lightly
scarify to clear thatch, strengthening roots for
winter and spring recovery.
Gradually raise your mower height over the final
two or three cuts to protect roots and prevent
winter stress. Finish around 40–50 mm for
resilience and disease resistance.
Rake leaves, improve drainage, and topdress
uneven areas. Avoid cutting too low or mowing
on wet ground, keep your lawn healthy, not
waterlogged, through the colder months.
