ACTIVITY 1 Inquiry begins with situations that are problematic, confusing, uncertain and conflicting and so does Action Research. Sometimes it helps to use a variety of questions as starting points to identify an issue you would like to research (Caro-Bruce, 2000): I would like to improve the means of inquiry or discovery learning with regard to the concepts learned in Filipino courses. I am really curious about how the students learn the concepts in our major since most of our topics really require some understanding and vocabulary . Something I think would really make a difference is when the students will be guided by mentors or peers that have learned the skill through peer tutoring or online consultation . Something I would like to change is the pure modular approach where students were given the modules and they do the responsibility (even worst, alone) to answer which exhausts them and become more hopeless. What happens to student learning in my classroom when I from a different location and leave them with activities with little guidance How can I implement effective and efficient learning in the Filipino courses during the flexible learning modality? How can I implement effective and efficient learning in the Filipino courses during the flexible learning modality?
Activity 2 After inquiring based from your personal experiences, observations anchored on queries or relevant encounters, be able to share three (3) Action Research Topics aligned to your degree of specialization. Reason it out. Topic 1: Improving the basic writing skills of learners in Filipino Reason(s) why this topic: This action research aims to improve the basic writing skills of learners, as we've noticed they struggle to express themselves clearly in writing. We want to address their weaknesses in grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure, which are holding them back in their studies and communication. This research will help us understand what these students need and find ways to make their writing better. Our goal is to give them the confidence and ability to communicate their ideas effectively in both school and everyday life. By improving their writing skills, we hope to create better teaching methods and resources that will help all learners become stronger writers .
Topic 2: Lack of Knowledge on the Structure of Filipino Language Reason(s) why this topic: We chose to focus our action research on the lack of knowledge about the structure of the Filipino language because we've seen firsthand how many students struggle with its grammar rules. This lack of understanding makes it difficult for them to communicate effectively, both in writing and speaking. We want to find out exactly where these students are having trouble and then develop better teaching methods to help them understand the structure of the language. By giving them a stronger grasp of Filipino grammar, we hope to boost their confidence and accuracy when they communicate. Our research will help us create better teaching materials and practices that are specifically designed to address the needs of students who are struggling with the structure of the Filipino language. We've chosen to focus our action research on the lack of understanding about the structure of the Filipino language because we've seen that many students have trouble with its grammar rules. This lack of knowledge makes it hard for them to communicate effectively, both when they write and speak. We want to figure out exactly what parts of Filipino grammar are giving students trouble and then come up with better ways to teach them. Our goal is to help students gain a deeper understanding of Filipino grammar so they can express themselves more accurately and confidently. We believe our research will lead to better teaching materials and methods that are specifically designed to help students who are struggling with the structure of the Filipino language.
Topic 3: Face-to-Face Consultation as a Tool in Mastering Vocabulary and Reading Skills in Filipino Subjects Reason(s) why this topic: Some students do express that it’s very hard to self-study. Some do learn effectively in collaborative and learning with guiding instructors and peers. Students do express that as much as they exert effort to understand, they still find it difficult and it just become easy when there’s someone who happened to be knowledgeable in the said field, that do some intervention to aid with their learning process.
Activity 3 Out of the three (3) topics presented in Activity 2, be able to use one, analyse the components and indicate it based on the matrix below: TOPIC:Face-to-Face Consultation as a Tool in Mastering Vocabulary and Reading Skills in Filipino Subjects Key Components Indicate here based on your chosen AR OBSERVE (The Problem) Many students struggle with understanding and using Filipino vocabulary effectively, which affects their reading comprehension and overall performance in Filipino subjects. They often lack confidence in using new words and applying them in context. REFLECT (Reflection) Face-to-face consultations offer a more personal learning experience where students can ask questions directly, clarify their misunderstandings, and receive immediate feedback. This setting provides a better opportunity for them to practice vocabulary and develop reading skills with guidance. PLAN (Plan of Action) To address this, a schedule for regular face-to-face consultations will be created. These sessions will focus on vocabulary enhancement and reading exercises tailored to students' individual needs, aiming to improve their proficiency in Filipino subjects ACT (Implementation) The consultations will begin by assessing each student's current vocabulary level, followed by targeted lessons and interactive activities like reading aloud, sentence construction, and vocabulary games. Progress will be tracked, and feedback will be continuously provided to reinforce learning.
ACTIVITY 4 Proposed Title: Crossword Puzzle: Sa Pagpapaunlad ng Bokabularyong Filipino sa Pang araw-araw na gamit na salita .
II. Action Research Questions (AR Questions) Ano ang antas ng Bukabolaryo ng mga Mag- aaral ? Ano ang antas ng Bukabolaryo ng mga Mag- aaral bago at matapos ang isinagawang interbensyon ? May kabuluhan bang ugnayan ang antas ng Bukabolaryo bago at matapos ang isasagawang interbensyon ?
III Proposed Innovation, Intervention Strategy Ang mga mananaliksik ay naglalayong suriin ang bisa ng paggamit ng Crossword Puzzle bilang isang estratehiya sa pagpapaunlad ng bokabularyong Filipino na ginagamit sa pang- araw - araw . Ang aktibidad ay magtatampok ng mga salita at parirala na karaniwan sa mga interaksyon ng mga mag- aaral , na nagpapalawak sa kanilang kasanayan sa wika at tiwala sa paggamit nito . Ang interbensyon ay magsasangkot ng tatlong pangunahing hakbang : Paggawa ng Puzzle: Ang mga mananaliksik ay gagawa ng mga crossword puzzles na naglalaman ng mga salita na ginagamit sa mga karaniwang sitwasyon , tulad ng mga pag-uusap sa pamilya , kaibigan , sa loob ng silid aralan , at komunidad . Pagsasagawa ng Aktibidad : Ang mga mag- aaral ay sasali sa isang interaktibo na sesyon kung saan sila ay magbibigay ng mga sagot sa crossword, sabay-sabay na magtutulungan at magbabahagi ng kanilang mga kaalaman . Pagsusuri : Matapos ang aktibidad , ang mga mananaliksik at mag- aaral ay magsasagawa ng pagsusuri sa mga natutunan mula sa puzzle at paano ito nakatulong sa kanilang pag-unawa sa bokabularyo .
IV. Action Research Methods Ang crossword puzzle ay isang uri ng laro na karaniwang nakikita sa mga pahayagan o magasin . Binubuo ito ng isang grid na may mga blangkong kahon na dapat punan ng mga salita . Ang mga salita ay nakatakip sa mga patayo at pahalang na direksyon , batay sa mga ibinigay na mga clue. Ang layunin ay punan ang lahat ng kahon nang tama gamit ang tamang mga sagot . Madalas itong ginagamit para sa libangan at pagpapalawak ng bokabularyo . Ang mga mananaliksik ay gagamit ng Pearson correlation kung saan magkakaroon ng pamamatnugot ng korelsyon sa pagitan ng isasagawang pre at post-test scores. Sa pamamagitan ng regular na paglalaro ng Crossword Puzzle ay maaring mapaunlad ng mga Mag- aaral ang kanilang bukabolaryo sa Filipino .
