2. What is Data ? Data is the raw material that is to be processed for information or for collection of details. It is unorganized data or facts that are to be processed . Numbers , characters, symbols, images etc., which can be processed by a computer. So Data is meaningless

3. Examples of Data ▶ Data of Citizens: During census, data of all citizens is collected. ▶ Survey Data: Different companies collect data by survey to know the opinion of people about their product.

4. DATA CAN TAKE MANY FORMS Alphanumeric data (Combination of Numeric and Data ). Text Data (Sentence and Paragraph used in written Communication ). Image Data (Graphics, Shapes, figures Etc.). A udio (Human Voice & and Sounds)

6. Defining Information ▶ Data that has been come processed into a meaningful form. ▶ Computer process data in to information . ▶ Information is processed data. The data that can be made useful is known as information ▶ Data does not depend upon information but information depends upon data. ▶ It cannot be generated without the help of data. ▶ Information cannot be generated without the help of data

Examples of Information: ▶ Census Report (Total population, Literacy Rate, Male / Female ratio etc.): Census data is used to get report/information about total population of a country and literacy rate etc. ▶ Survey Reports and Results: Survey data is summarized into reports/information to present to management of the company

9. Input Data Data Is Processed Output Information Data Is Meaningless Processes can be: Manipulation of data. Ex. Arithmetic operations, Comparing, sorting, Searching Information, is meaningful DATA is put in USING INPUT DEVICES e.g. KEYBOARD INFORMATION is produced ON OUTPUT DEVICES e.g. MONITOR

10. Difference Between Data and Information Data is the input language for a computer and information is the output language for human. Data is unprocessed facts or mere figures but information is processed data which has been made sense of. Data does not depend on information but information depends on data and without it, information cannot be processed. Data is not specific but information is specific enough to generate meaning
