What is physical activity? Physical activity is defined as any sustained movement that increases heart rate and energy expenditure ( Rahman, 2023). Physically active individuals have lower risks of diseases and a better quality of life.

Overall Physical benefits: Stronger muscles and bones Healthy heart and lungs Maintains healthy weight More energy in school and at home Better flexibility and coordination Improved sleeping patterns Reduced risk of chronic diseases
Social benefits Being social means interacting, communicating, and building relationships with other people. Having a small social network and infrequent social interaction (social isolation) is associated with decreased cognitive function and high risk of depression, a condition that can decrease cognitive performance and impair memory ( Clarytjj , 2020).

Mental benefits Mental benefits of physical activity refer to how physical activity helps the mind and emotions. Physical activity not only boosts physical fitness and prevents chronic diseases, but it can also improve brain health ( Delgado, 2022). Physical activity can make the part of the brain that controls memory grow bigger, helping us remember things better. Physical activity also gives the brain more energy, which supports learning and may help prevent diseases like Alzheimer’ ( Delgado, 2022) .
