HOPE 2

What words are associated to INDIVIDUAL and DUAL SPORTS?

Using those words how will you define Individual and Dual sports?

What is an individual and dual sport/s? Individual sports are those played by one person against another or against a number of solo players . A dual sports (not to be confused with team sports) is played by partners (two people) against another set of partners or a number of sets of partners.

Athletics is the name given to a group of sports that includes track and field events. Track events involve all forms of running and walking. Field events are the throwing and jumping events.

RUNNING OR SPRINTING Sprinting means running over a short distance in limited period of time. It helps build the muscles along with speed. At the same time, it helps burn off the fat layers that hide the muscles underneath. 50-Meter Sprint Materials Needed: stopwatch/ordinary watch Skill Needed: correct movement of the body, arm, and legs; speed .

The runner should observe the following movements when doing a sprint. 1. I n proper sprinting form, the body leans forward with the arms swinging in opposition to the legs. 2. The arms are bent at the elbows and swing from the shoulders in a forward and backward plane, not across the body. 3. The knees are lifted sharply forward and upward and are brought down with a vigorous motion followed by forceful push from the toss

HURDLING is the act of running and jumping over some obstacle, with speed component. The hurdles (or obstacles) are usually made of metal and wood (or metal and plastic) and are set at fixed distance apart. Hurdles in athletics The various hurdles races require participants to attempt to clear the horizontal barriers in the quickest time possible. The 100-meter, 110 meters, and 400-meter hurdles races all use ten barriers. However, they do have different heights.

Stage one Run with controlled speed at the hurdle. As you approach the hurdle, drive up your rear leg up and forwards. At the same time, raise your front knee up and extend the leg parallel to the floor. As you pass over the hurdle, thrust your front leg over the barrier. At the same time, pull your rear leg up at the knee and turn the foot outward. Stage two As you clear over the hurdle bring your back foot into your bottom and swing the leg round and forwards. Drive your front leg downwards towards the track and on impact, swing your opposite arm backwards to pull the trail leg forwards. Sprint away from the hurdle

ATHLETICS EQUIPMENT HURDLES an obstacle in a race that runners must jump or clear while running. TRACK SPIKES are racing shoes used by athletes when racing on the track. STARTING BLOCK items used in sprint races where the runner puts their feet in to get a good start for the run. STOP WATCH s a handheld timepiece designed to measure the amount of time that elapses between its activation and deactivation BATON a tube that is passed from one relay race member to another. The runner holding the baton is the current runner for that team in the race. They are typically about 1 foot long and 1.5 inches in diameter.

Safety Rules Track safety  Warm-up in the outside 3 lanes.  Leave the inside clear for distance runners. Do not hold discussions on the track.  Check for runners before you cross the track. An adult can travel very fast and cannot stop instantly if you step out in front of him (not quite so bad as a car, but you will get hurt).  Never leave your equipment on the track.

PERFORMANCE TASK 1 Directions: Assume that you are an athlete representing your school, you are going to perform a 50-meter sprint to measure your cardio respiratory endurance and your fitness. This is how you will be graded: Criteria for time 51-1-minute--------85% 40-50seconds -------90% 30-39 seconds -------95% 16-29 seconds -------- 100%

THANK YOU!
