Levees Mwai Nyamu

Levees A levee is a naturally occurring ridge at the banks of a river. It is like a raised river bank above the level of the floodplain.

Formation of a levee When a flood occurs, the river bursts its banks. The flood leaves behind sediment (thickest at channel edges, thin and fine on the outer part of the floodplain outside the channel) This sediment raises the level of the banks above the floodplain. If more flooding occurs then the levees keep getting higher. {http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_is_a_levee_formed}
