The Pumpkin Life
Cycle

Can you describe what a
pumpkin looks like?

Do you know what season
you usually see pumpkins?

Have you ever
seen inside a
pumpkin?
Have you ever
helped carve a
pumpkin?

When you were helping carve the
pumpkin, what did you see when
you looked inside of the pumpkin?

The Stages of
the Pumpkin Life
Cycle
Stage 5:
Orange
Pumpkin
Stage 1:
Seed
Stage 2:
Plant
Stage 3:
Flower
Stage 4:
Green
Pumpkin

First we plant the
pumpkin seed.

Then we watch over time as
the seed begins to grow into a
pumpkin sprout.

The sprout then grows
into a pumpkin vine.

After the vine as grown the vine
begins to grow yellow flowers.

Then the beautiful yellow flower
turns into a very small green
pumpkin.

The green pumpkin grows bigger
and bigger and then turns
orange!

When you go to the pumpkin
patch to pick your pumpkin, how
can you get the seeds to plant
another pumpkin?
Inside the pumpkin there are hundreds of seeds!
You can cut open your pumpkin to get the seeds to
plant your pumpkins for next fall!

How can we use pumpkins?
We can also use them to
decorate and to make
Jack-o'-lantern by carving
faces into the pumpkins
during the Halloween
season.!
We can use them in cooking! Pumpkins are
in pumpkin pies, pumpkin cookies and
pumpkin bread!

Did you know?
•A pumpkin is actually
a fruit.
•You can eat the
pumpkin flowers.
•You can roast the
pumpkin seeds and
eat them!
