About This Presentation

Linear pair is a pair of angles which are adjacent and their common sides are opposite rays

Linear Pair Elton John B. Embodo

Statement of the Aim: Determine whether two angles form a linear pair or not; Analyze statements about linear pair properties; Solve word problems involving linear pairs.

Do the following in your group; Draw a straight horizontal line and label it as line AB. In the middle part of the line AB, put a ray and name it as ray CD going upward where C touches the line AB. Label the two new angles formed on the figure. Indicate the common side. Indicate also the uncommon sides.

Observe the figure below; A B C D <ACD <BCD ray CD ray AC and ray CB

Linear Pairs Two angles form a linear pair if and only if they meet these conditions: They are adjacent angles, and their uncommon sides are opposite rays A B C D

Linear Pair Postulate If two angles form a linear pair, then they are supplementary. and are supplementary since they form a linear pair. A B C D

Directions: Analyze each statement whether it is Always True, Sometimes True and Never True. Write AT for Always True, ST for Sometimes True and NT for Never True. Two angles that form a linear pair are supplementary. Complementary angles form a linear pair. The sum of the measures of the angles in a linear pair is 180. If two angles form a linear pair, one of the two angles is an acute angle and the other is an obtuse. Two angles form a linear pair are right angles.

Assignment Directions: Solve the following word problems involving linear pairs. Use ½ sheet of paper. If two angles form a linear pair and the measure of one angle is 47 degrees, what is the measure of the other angle. If the measure of one angle of the angles in a linear pair is 38 degrees, what is the measure of the other angle? The measure of on angle of the angles in a linear pair is 30 less than one-half the measure of the other angle. Find the measure of each angle.
