Linear Drainage Solutions with Modular Trench Drains
TRADITIONAL POINT DRAINAGE VS
LINEAR DRAINAGE

Point Drainage
•Water is intercepted at low points through
catch basins.
•Catch basins are connected to an
underground storm sewer pipe
Use
•Drainage areas with steep gradients.
•Catch basins installed against a curb; with
sloping pavement.
•Often used in conjunction with linear
drainage system.
POINT DRAINAGE
SURFACE DRAINAGE 101 - LINEAR DRAINAGE SOLUTIONS WITH MODULAR TRENCH DRAINS

Potential Issues:
•Costly; complex, time-consuming installation
•Impractical; uneven surface
•Increased maintenance costs; poor access,
extra structures
•Inefficient performance; ponding and
blockages
•Deeper pipe inverts; conflict with
underground services
POINT DRAINAGE
SURFACE DRAINAGE 101 - LINEAR DRAINAGE SOLUTIONS WITH MODULAR TRENCH DRAINS

Linear Drainage
•Water is intercepted along the entire trench
drain run.
•The interception rate of linear drainage is
greater than point drainage
Use
•Cost effective; less pipe-work
•Larger pavements
•Level surfaces; no ground slope
•Cut off drain; interception on steeper slopes
LINEAR DRAINAGE
SURFACE DRAINAGE 101 - LINEAR DRAINAGE SOLUTIONS WITH MODULAR TRENCH DRAINS

LINEAR DRAINAGE BENEFITS
Benefits:
•More efficient at intercepting run-off water
•Ponding is reduced or eliminated
•Shallow depth of construction
•Easier grading
•More economical (fewer manholes, less
pipe, faster installation)
•Easy access along the entire length of the
linear drainage system
•Eliminates the “roller coaster” effect for
vehicular traffic
•Aesthetic solution

Client Feedback
•Bruno Tollardo; Head of Logistics
•Two years later….
•“The channels are exposed to daily fork-lift traffic
carrying multi-tonne loads in both lateral and
longitudinal directions.”
•“Two years after installing the channels, we see no
changes whatsoever. Despite high stress levels,
there are neither cracks, tears, subsidence nor other
signs of wear….”
•“We certainly put the product to the test and can
confidently further recommend it to our clients.”
