Linking Research Findings to Extension Presented by: Moran, E.

It refers to the process of translating scientific research into practical applications that benefit fishers, fish farmers, policymakers, and other stakeholders. It ensures that the latest scientific knowledge is effectively communicated and applied to improve fisheries management, aquaculture, and conservation efforts. -Singh et. al., 2023

Real-World Examples 1. Sustainable Fishing Practices: Research identifying overfishing trends has led to the development of sustainable fishing guidelines. Extension services disseminate these guidelines to fishing communities, promoting practices that prevent resource depletion.

Real-World Examples 2. Aquaculture Disease Management: Studies on fish diseases have resulted in effective treatment protocols. Extension agents train fish farmers on these protocols, reducing mortality rates and increasing yields.

Real-World Examples 3. Climate Adaptation Strategies: Research on climate change impacts has informed the development of adaptive strategies for fisheries. Extension services educate stakeholders on implementing these strategies to mitigate adverse effects.

Linking Research to Extension Knowledge Transfer Research & Data Collection – Scientists conducting field studies, collecting water samples, and monitoring fish populations. Analysis & Findings – Researchers analyzing data, identifying trends, and formulating recommendations. Knowledge Translation – Converting research into practical guidelines, policy briefs, or best practices. Extension & Outreach – Fisheries extension officers conducting training sessions, workshops, or community meetings . Adoption & Impact – Fishers applying new techniques, sustainable fishing practices, and improved aquaculture management. Research & Data Collection Analysis & Findings Knowledge Translation Extension & Outreach Adoption & Impact
