Linospan (Generic Linezolid Tablets) is an antibacterial used in adults and children for the treatment of the following infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria: Nosocomial pneumonia, Community-acquired pneumonia, Complicated skin and skin structure infections, including diabetic foot infections, without concomitant osteomyelitis, Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections and Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections.
Linezolid tablets are active against most Gram-positive bacteria that cause disease, including streptococci, vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE), and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). You may be given additional medicines depending on the indication to be treated.

Uses of Linospan Tablets
Linospan (Generic Linezolid Tablets) is used to treat certain bacterial infections in
many different parts of the body, including certain types of skin infections or
pneumonia. Linezolid belongs to the family of medicines called antibiotics. It works
by killing bacteria or preventing their growth. However, this medicine will not work
for colds, flu, or other virus infections.
Linezolid is indicated in adults for the treatment of community acquired pneumonia
and nosocomial pneumonia when known or suspected to be caused by susceptible
Gram positive bacteria.
Linezolid is not active against infections caused by Gram negative pathogens.
Linezolid should only be used in patients with complicated skin and soft tissue
infections with known or possible co-infection with Gram negative organisms if
there are no alternative treatment options available. In these circumstances
treatment against Gram negative organisms must be initiated concomitantly.

Linospan Tablets Dosage

The dosage of Linospan tablets (Generic Linezolid Tablets)
is given below:
Nosocomial pneumonia, Community-acquired pneumonia, including
concurrent bacteremia, Complicated skin and skin structure
infections: 600 mg every 12 hours for a period of 10 to 14 days.
Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections, including
concurrent bacteremia: 600 mg every 12 hours for a period of 14
to 28 days.
Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections: 400 mg every 12
hours for a period of 10 to 14 days

Contraindications
Linospan tablets are contraindicated in persons with a hypersensitivity
(allergy) to Linezolid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Linezolid tablets should not be administered to patients taking any
medicinal substance which inhibits monoamine oxidases A or B (e.g.
phenelzine, isocarboxazid) or within two weeks of taking any such
medicinal product.
Unless patients are monitored for potential increases in blood pressure, Generic
Linezolid Tablets (Linospan) must not be administered to patients with
uncontrolled hypertension, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis and/or patients
taking any of the following types of medicines: directly and indirectly acting
sympathomimetic agents (e.g. Pseudoephedrine), vasopressive agents (e.g.
Epinephrine, Norepinephrine), dopaminergic agents (e.g. Dopamine, Dobutamine)

Contraindications
Unless patients are carefully observed for signs and/or symptoms
of serotonin syndrome, Linospan tablets should not be
administered to patients with carcinoid syndrome and/or
patients taking any of the following medications: Serotonin re-
uptake inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, Serotonin 5-HT1
receptor agonists (Triptans), Meperidine or Buspirone.

Storage Instructions

Linospan (Generic Linezolid Tablets) have to
be stored at controlled room temperature i.e.
from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) with
excursions permitted between 15° to 30°C

Warnings

Myelosuppression: Monitor complete blood counts weekly. Consider
discontinuation in patients who develop or have worsening
myelosuppression.
Peripheral and optic neuropathy: Reported primarily in patients treated for
longer than 28 days. If patients experience symptoms of visual
impairment, prompt ophthalmic evaluation is recommended.
Serotonin syndrome: Patients taking serotonergic antidepressants should
receive Linospan only if no other therapies are available. Discontinue
serotonergic antidepressants and monitor patients for signs and symptoms
of both serotonin syndrome and antidepressant discontinuation.
A mortality imbalance was seen in an investigational study in Linezolid-
treated patients with catheter-related bloodstream infections.

Warnings

Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea: Evaluate if diarrhea occurs.
Potential interactions producing elevation of blood pressure: monitor
blood pressure.
Hypoglycemia: Postmarketing cases of symptomatic hypoglycemia have
been reported in patients with diabetes mellitus receiving insulin or oral
hypoglycemic agents.

Effects on Ability to Drive and Use Machines

Patients should be warned about the potential for dizziness or symptoms
of visual impairment whilst receiving Linospan (Generic Linezolid

Most common side effects with an incidence rate of 5% or
more of adult and/or pediatric patients treated with
Linezolid (Linospan tablets) include: diarrhea, vomiting,
headache, nausea, and anemia.

Overdose
No cases of overdose have been reported. In the event of overdosage,
supportive care is advised, with maintenance of glomerular filtration.
Approximately 30% of a Linezolid dose is removed during 3 hours of
haemodialysis, but no data are available for the removal of linezolid by
peritoneal dialysis or haemoperfusion. The two primary metabolites of
Linezolid are also removed to some extent by haemodialysis.
Signs of toxicity in rats following doses of 3,000 mg/kg/day Linezolid
were decreased activity and ataxia whilst dogs treated with 2,000
mg/kg/day experienced vomiting and tremors.
No specific antidote is known.

Linospan Tablets During Pregnancy
Linezolid (Linospan Tablets) has been classified by the US
FDA as Pregnancy Category C.
Adequate and well-controlled studies have not been conducted in
pregnant women.
Linezolid was not teratogenic in mice, rats, or rabbits at exposure
levels 6.5-fold (in mice), equivalent to (in rats), or 0.06-fold (in
rabbits) the expected human exposure level, based on AUCs.
However, embryo and fetal toxicities were seen.
Linezolid tablets should be used during pregnancy only if the
potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus.
