Globally, food accounts for 48% and 70% of household environmental impacts on land and water resources respectively, with consumption of meat, dairy and processed food rising quickly with income.
World Food Supply - population and income are the major factors in determining food consumption. -world food demand is growing at a rate of 2% per year 1.8% of this because of population increase and .2 % because of rising income.

Factors that contribute to the World Food Supply
Industrial agriculture is a form of modern farming that refers to the industrial production of crops, fish, livestock and poultry. With the help of machineries and equipment in farming methods .
-industrial agricultural production is highly resource and energy intensive. Used heavy irrigation, extensive pesticide and fertilizers application.
Conventional foods are by chemical fertilizers to enhance plant growth. In animals rearing, conventional farmer administer antibiotics and growth hormones to improve growth and well being of animals
Conventional food distribution and long distance transport are additionally resource and energy exhaustive.
Conventional foods are made using pesticides and chemical herbicides.
Local and seasonal food - is food that produced within a short distance where it is consumed, often accompanied by a social structure and supply chain different from the large-scale supermarket system.

Reducing meat consumption -industrial meat production also involves high environmental costs such as land degradation, soil erosion and depletion of natural resources, especially pertaining to water and food.
Organic Farming -purchasing and supporting organic products is another fundamental contribution to sustainable living.
Urban agriculture is the practice of cultivating, processing and distributing food in or around urban areas. It also involved husbandry, aquaculture, agroforestry, urban beekeeping, and horticulture.
Urban gardening -”Edible landscaping” -urban agriculture helps expanding for both farmers and ordinary people to involved in food production.
Food preservation and storage - preserving and storing foods reduces reliance on long-distance transported food and the market industry.
