6. ☆ Rex Heuermann ☆ A witness described a first-generation Chevrolet Avalanche driven by a client. The client returned the next day, prompting Amber Costello to leave her home for a meeting. Costello was never seen alive again after this meeting . New taskforce created in 2022 reviewed the evidence gathered in the case and interviewed Costello’s pimp . A registration search showed that local man Rex Heuermann owned a first-generation model of the truck at the time of Costello’s disappearance. He also matched the witness’ description of the man believed to be the killer: a large, white “ogre”-like male in his mid-40s, around 6’4’ to 6’6” tall, with “dark bushy hair,” and “big oval style 1970’s type eyeglasses” . W hen the three women went missing, they had been in contact with a person who was using a burner phone to arrange to meet them . The burner phones used to contact the victims always pinged off the same cell towers as Heuermann’s legitimate cellphone . Following Brainard-Barnes and Barthelemy’s murders, the killer took and used their cellphones and called their families . 8. ☆ Rex Heuermann ☆ Sadistic online searches Heuermann was search ing for graphic images of young girls and children and “ sadistic, torture-related pornography ”. H e looked up images of the murder victims and their relatives, and researched podcasts, documentaries and news stories on the case . He also looked for information about the new task force on the case.

9. ☆ Rex Heuermann ☆ DNA evidence Hair belonging to Heuermann's wife was found on the bodies of three victims . To match Heuermann’s DNA, they collected a discarded pizza box with a pizza crust . DNA analysis confirmed it matched the hair found on Megan Waterman’s body .

10. ☆ Rex Heuermann ☆ 2024 I nvestigation still continues into other unsolved murders . As of July 2024, Rex Heuermann has been accused of six murders . Initially, he was charged with the killings of four women in July 2023. Recently, he has been charged with the murders of two additional women, bringing the total to six .
