2. Who Was L.S Lowry? Laurence Stephen Lowry, born 1 st November 1887-23 rd February 1976 was an English artist born is Stretford, Lancashire. He is mostly famous for his paintings of industrial districts of North West England and of the mid-20th century. He developed a distinctive style of painting and his urban landscapes with people also known as “matchstick men”.
