MAIN GOAL OF
SCIENCE EDUCATION IN THE PHILIPPINES
What is Science?
SCIENCE
Fields within science
allow us to explore
and understand the
world around us
through
experimentation and
research. It’s about
discovery and
possibility.
NATURE OF SCIENCE
1. Science is a wonderful world.
2. Science is evidence-based.
3. Science has limits.
4. Science knowledge is
inherently uncertain.
5. Science is dynamic and
expanding body of knowledge.
6. Science is both a product
and a process.
7. Science is a field of study.
OVERVIEW OF
K TO 12 SCIENCE
EDUCATION
•The K to 12 Science Education
program in the Philippines is
designed to build a solid
foundation in science from
Kindergarten through Grade 12.
•The curriculum aims to
develop scientific literacy and
critical thinking skills among
students, preparing them for
the challenges of a rapidly
changing world.
MAIN GOAL OF K TO 12
SCIENCE EDUCATION
•The main goal of K to 12 Science
Education is to produce scientifically
literate citizens who possess the
knowledge, skills, and values needed
to make informed decisions about
the natural world and its changes.
•This goal ensures that students
can engage with science-related
issues, both locally and globally,
and contribute to the development
of society.
The Primary Objective
DEVELOPING CRITICAL
THINKING AND PROBLEM-
SOLVING SKILLS
• The curriculum emphasizes inquiry-
based learning, where students
actively participate in experiments,
investigations, and problem-solving
activities.
• Students learn to formulate
hypotheses, design experiments, collect
and analyze data, and draw evidence-
based conclusions.
• This approach fosters critical thinking
and equips students with the skills to
solve real-world problems.
PROMOTING
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
AND STEWARDSHIP
• The curriculum includes environmental
education as a core component,
teaching students about ecosystems,
biodiversity, and the impact of human
activities on the environment.
• Students are encouraged to engage in
conservation efforts and adopt
sustainable practices in their daily lives.
• The goal is to instill a sense of
responsibility towards the environment
and promote active citizenship.
PREPARING FOR STEM
CAREERS
• The curriculum provides a strong
foundation in Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM),
which are critical areas for future careers.
• Specialized tracks in Senior High School,
such as STEM, offer students advanced
courses in science and mathematics,
preparing them for higher education and
careers in science-related fields.
• The goal is to produce graduates who
are not only knowledgeable but also
skilled in scientific and technical
disciplines.
INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY IN
SCIENCE EDUCATION
•The curriculum integrates the use of
technology in teaching and learning
science, such as virtual labs, simulations,
and digital tools for data analysis.
• This prepares students to use modern
technology in scientific inquiry and
research, making them more proficient in
the tools and methods used in
contemporary science.
• The goal is to enhance students'
understanding and application of
scientific concepts through the use of
technology.
LIFELONG LEARNING AND
SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY
• Promotes lifelong learning by encouraging
curiosity and a love for science.
• Students are taught to approach scientific
inquiry with an open mind, continuously
seeking to understand the world around
them.
• The goal is to create learners who
remain engaged with science throughout
their lives, constantly adapting to new
discoveries and challenges.
