About This Presentation

The achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11) is crucial as more than half of the world’s population now lives in urban areas. This proportion is expected to increase, with projections indicating that by 2050, nearly 70% of the global population will be urban dwellers.

Global Urbanization and SDG 11: Rapid urbanization is driving the urgency
of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11), which focuses on
creating inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable human settlements.
Urban Population Growth: More than 50% of the global population lives in
urban areas, projected to reach nearly 70% by 2050 (Papachristopoulou et
al., 2022).
Global Housing Challenges: Key challenges include rapid urbanization,
overcrowded urban centers, informal settlements, economic disparities,
and rising housing costs (Schuster et al., 2018).
Environmental and Social Impact: Housing developments contribute to
environmental degradation (deforestation, pollution), while lack of basic
services like water and sanitation worsens public health (Kirk et al., 2021).

Significance of Study: This study explores these challenges to
provide insights into sustainable solutions and policy measures
addressing the global housing crisis and its impact on
affordability, homelessness, and environmental sustainability.

The comprehensive scientometric and SLR highlights
key areas for sustainable human settlements,
emphasizing resilience, innovation, vulnerability, and
resident participation, all crucial for achieving SDG
11. Targeted infrastructure, disaster risk reduction,
and inclusive policies are essential for vulnerable
communities. Innovation in smart city technologies,
sustainable housing, and participatory planning
enhances urban efficiency and inclusivity. Global
collaboration, especially South-South cooperation, is
vital to bridging knowledge gaps and addressing
regional challenges, ensuring sustainable, resilient,
and inclusive urban development.
