Brand & Identity Systems Guide
2023 Edition

Preface
Co-operatives are more than just business entities, they are living embodiments of solidarity, empathy, and
community. In a world where the pursuit of profit often takes precedence, co-ops stand out as beacons of hope,
demonstrating that it is possible to prioritize people over profits while building successful enterprises. Co-operatives
are grounded in principles that underscore self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, and solidarity.
MASS-SPECC Cooperative Development Center proudly stands as the oldest and most significant regional federation
of co-operatives in Mindanao. Our mission transcends the confines of business; it is about embracing a shared vision
and adopting a uniform branding approach to amplify our federation’s visual identity. In 2017, MASS-SPECC
embarked on a transformative journey by crafting a visionary 10-year Strategic Communication Plan. This plan was
born out of the thoughtful responses of co-operative leaders to in-depth qualitative research. At its core, this plan
seeks to fortify the co-operative identity. Our leaders at MASS-SPECC envision a future where co-operatives march
forward with a singular identity and a unified purpose by the year 2027.
Through numerous focused group discussions, we forged our defining message: “Sharing and Growing Together”;
This tagline now serves as the rallying call for all our communication strategies and campaigns. It encapsulates our
grand vision for the co-operative movement: “All Members Enjoy a Better Quality of Life”; This message is not just for
us, but for all stakeholders who believe in the transformative power of co-operatives.
All member co-ops of MASS-SPECC are enjoined in using these branding guidelines to establish consistent branding
of the federation and to gain greater visibility of our unique co-op identity. Let us establish together a consistent
brand identity for our federation and enhance our visibility. As we do so, we will not only strengthen our co-operative
movement but also inspire countless others to join us in this noble journey toward an inclusive and sustainable
future. Join MASS-SPECC in unlocking the true potential of co-operatives, where solidarity, financial empowerment,
and social impact coexist in harmony.

Core Values and Principles
Co-operatives are rooted in a strong set of core values that guide our actions and principles. These foundational values uphold the essence
of collaboration, promoting a sense of unity and collective well-being among our members. By living and promoting these co-operative
values, members create an empowering ecosystem that not only strengthens our operations but also enriches the lives of the individuals
and communities we serve. Co-operatives stand as shining examples of how collective action, driven by a shared set of values, can lead to an
inclusive sustainable growth.
In keeping with the ideals of our visionary founders, co-operative members uphold ethical values that embody the essence of cooperation
and mutual respect. These values include honesty, which builds trust and fosters transparent communication; openness, which encourages
free exchange of ideas and diverse perspectives; social responsibility, which drives co-operatives to actively contribute to society; and caring
for others, which emphasizes empathy and compassion in our interactions.
Members actively participate in building our collective strength,
pooling resources, and leveraging mutual support to address
common challenges and achieve shared objectives. Through self-
help, co-operatives empower individuals to take control of their own
destinies.
Co-operative members embrace self-responsibility, understanding
that our active engagement and commitment contribute to the
success of the collective enterprise. Each member plays a vital role
in shaping the co-operative’s direction and is accountable for their
actions, fostering a culture of ownership and dedication.
Democracy forms the cornerstone of co-operative governance.
Members enjoy equal rights and have a say in the decision-making
processes, ensuring that the collective will is reflected in the co-
operative’s actions. This democratic approach nurtures
transparency and inclusivity — an environment where every voice is
valued.
Co-operatives are built on the principle of equality, where all
members are treated with respect and fairness. Regardless of
position or contribution, each member’s voice carries equal weight,
promoting a sense of dignity and unity in the co-operative
movement.
In addition to equality, co-operatives uphold the value of equity. We
recognize that individual needs may vary and strive to ensure that
resources and benefits are distributed in a fair and just manner,
addressing the specific requirements of each member.
Solidarity is the lifeblood of co-operatives, driving them to stand
together in times of challenges and opportunities. Members support
one another, building a strong sense of community and shared
purpose. Through solidarity, co-operatives exemplify the power of
collective action in creating positive change.

Our Logo
Our logo is a visual embodiment of our brand’s essence. It
features a sleek, stylized “M” for “MASS-SPECC” at its core,
representing our growth through the years and our
interconnectedness. The different shades of blue harmoniously
appear in the main logo, signifying unity and diversity, much like
the membership of MASS-SPECC across the Philippines. The font
used for MASS-SPECC Cooperative Development Center in the
logo is bold and modern, reinforcing our commitment to
progress and impact.

Five Strokes
Our network brand is presented using the five forward-leaning vertical
bars beside our federation name, MASS-SPECC. Signifying five solid
decades of service, MASS-SPECC builds its foundation on the collective
strength of member co-operatives, growing them toward the
awakened power of the whole.
Simple and immensely substantial, the representation of the five bars
projects the stability founded on one strong movement. We started the
work five decades ago, we will continue five and more decades beyond.

Graphic Assets
While the logo provides primary branding for communication, graphic
assets are supplementary visuals. They are not intended to act as
logos or to replace the logo, but to help communicators complement
the MASS-SPECC logo with additional creative artwork and connect to
visuals.
The Okir pattern, commonly used in Muslim Mindanao, represents
the interplay of different elements working together to create a
harmonious whole. Meanwhile, the Lumad design, used by
indigenous Mindanao communities, represents the
interconnectedness of all living things.

employ the Open Sans variation for body text, although
