Summary of the proposal: Course type: International Master's Degree Program (under accreditation: first step passed) Degree teaching class : LM-76 Economic Sciences for the Environment and Culture Language: English Duration: 2 years (part-time: 4 years) Credits: 120 ECTS (“Hybrid teaching”: 30%- 66% distance learning ) with 11 exams Location: University of Milan – Bicocca Hosting department: Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (DISAT ) with contributions from other departments from Science (Material Science and Biology) and Economy fields Start date of lessons 1 st October 2025; call of interest open; admission from July 2025 Master: “Economics and Technologies of Sustainability (ETS)” Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences ( DISAT ), MILAN, ITALY
THE IDEA AIM OF THE PROGRAM The international sustainability program aims to provide a solid and advanced education on all the main topics related to environmental sustainability . This is achieved through highly multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approaches to develop the ability to address sustainability challenges in a holistic manner . The covered topics include disciplines from economic and management sciences, mathematical and statistical sciences (with advanced computational models), as well as scientific disciplines directly related to environmental issues, such as ecology, biology, chemistry, physics, and geology . Graduates will enter the world of work as “ Sustainability Specialists ” or “ Techno-Economists ,” professionals capable of bridging economic and technological solutions for sustainable development within private companies, public sectors , and as consultant .
4 THE IDEA: main fields of application The Sustainability Specialist, a Techno-Economist for private and public enterprises: ... for the economic field , with specialization in the description, evaluation, and quantification of sustainable measures, such as life-cycle assessment (LCA), ecological footprint calculation , and with skills useful for recognizing the innovative potential of new sustainability concepts and applying them within the corporate context. ... for the resources and production field , with specialization in renewable and non-renewable resources and sustainable and eco-compatible pro ductio n , including teachings focused on the principles and methods for the circular economy and the implementation of the 'safe-by-design' concept in context. The curriculum for this role also includes raising awareness about potential conflicts that may arise between the 17 United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) and the implementation of concrete sustainability measures and sustainable technologies. ... for the renewable energy field , with specialization in sustainable energy, through targeted instruction on renewable energy, energy storage systems, and the transformation between various types of energy, also from the perspective of applied economics and ecological aspects. ... with cross-cutting expertise for various types of consulting in the listed above contexts.

No limitation to places: free admission under specific requirements Curricular requirements regarding skills and knowledge acquired in specific scientific-disciplinary fields: The program is aimed at high-level Italian and international students. Admission is therefore based on academic excellence. To be admitted to the degree program, graduates from the following bachelor's degree classes are eligible: L-18, L-32, L-33 (Economics and Environmental Sciences) . Graduates from other degree classes must have acquired at least 36 ECTS in the following scientific-disciplinary fields during their previous studies: SECS-P/1/6/8 , SECS-S/1 , GEO4/5/9 , BIO/1/5/7 , CHIM/3/6 with at least 18 ECTS from SEC*. Candidates who fully meet the curricular requirements specified above will be admitted to the interview without further verification. Conversely, candidates who do not fully meet the specific requirements regarding the minimum number of ECTS to be obtained in the sets of scientific-disciplinary fields a) or b) will have to pass a test aimed at assessing their specific knowledge. Verification of the adequacy of candidates' personal preparation: An admission test is mandatory for all candidates to verify the adequacy of their personal preparation . A commission will evaluate the student’s motivation and preparation in the fields of economics, business, mathematics-statistics, law, and environmental-cultural disciplines.
