2. Megalosaurus bucklandii is the only known species
of the extinct genus Megalosaurus of the
megalosaurid theropod dinosaur, which lived in the
mid-Jurassic period, approximately 166 million years
ago, in the Bathonian, in what is now Europe.

3. Megalosaurus was a bipedal predator about 9 meters long and about a ton of weight with a well-
balanced structure for the race.
The structure of the cervical vertebrae shows that it had a flexible neck.
Like all theropods, he had three fingers on the front of the foot and only one inverted.
Although they had not reached the tiny size as in other more modern theropods like the
Tyrannosaurus,
The front members of Megalosaurus were small and probably had digits.
Living in what is now Europe, during the Jurassic period, 181 to 169 million years ago,

4. DISCOVERY
The Megalosaurus was the first dinosaur to be studied and have a name. In 1676
a bone fragment was recovered in a quarry in Cornwell, England. This bone
fragment was sent to the University of Oxford, specifically to Dr. Robert Plot.
He published a description of this rest in 1677.
