Marine Benthic: Discussion 3 Meiofauna Rex Samuel Abao Jr.
Introduction A highly heterogeneous environment must provide additional niches for numerous species; Correlation between habitat complexity and species diversity is the focus in this study
benthic organisms that can pass through a 1 mm mesh but are retained by a 42 –63 mm mesh Meifauna 01
Gaps why study meifauna in seagrass seagrass studies have merely focused on macrofauna even though meiofauna may produce varying responses to identical environmental factors meiofauna have species-specific diets including plant tissue, detritus, epiphytes and microorganisms Species of seagrass with distinct physical structures (e.g. leaves and roots) supply various microhabitats, which influence the benthic community
03 Three cores per quadrat with 3.6 cm diameter and 5cm depth 04 Dried, Sieve, Preserved, and Statistical A n alysis were done Cores Laboratory Processing 01 Sediments were using 3 x 3 m2 quadrats 02 Water current, salinity, temperature, light One quadrat per habitat Habitats were assumed to be identical METHODS
Sampling Site and Seagrass species
Results and Discussion
The water content and silt/clay content in T. hemprichii and unvegetated sediments differed from those in H. uninervis and H. ovalis samples. In addition, the unvegetated sediments had a larger grain size and lower organic matter content than did the samples from T. hemprichii he abundance of meiofauna was significantly higher in H. uninervis than in the adjacent unvegetated sediments (ANOVA with Tukey’s post hoc test, P , 0.05; Table 1). The proportion of nematodes was significantly higher in samples from H. uninervis and T. hemprichii than those from H. ovalis and the unvegetated sediments (ANOVA with Tukey’s post hoc test, P , 0.05). A total of 24 higher meiofaunal taxa were identified in the present study Xyalidae was the most dominant family in H. ovalis and unvegetated sediments, whereas Desmodoridae dominated in H. uninervis and T. hemprichii habitats. Leptolaimidae and Linhomoeidae were restricted to seagrass habitats, and Chromadoridae was much more abundant and diverse in seagrass bed sediments than in adjacent unvegetated sediments Lists like this one: They’re simple You can organize your ideas clearly You’ll never forget to buy milk! And the most important thing: the audience won’t miss the point of your presentation ever again Discussion points
Approximately 22.7% of the nematode species (15 out of 66) were exclusively distributed in single habitats; four species only occurred in the H. ovalis site, five in H. uninervis and six in T. hemprichii . No species were restricted to the adjacent unvegetated sediments Among the 13 species occurring in all habitats, Daptonema sp. 1 and Rhynchonema sp. were predominant in the study sites. Some comments? Comprehensive study and different variables has been implemented Replicable and doable in the Philippine setting Integrated different components in the study from diversity of species to nutrients Answered their questions
Some comments? Only use one quadrat Epiphytes of seagrass was not included

Mercury Venus Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the smallest one in the Solar System—it’s only a bit larger than the Moon Venus has a beautiful name and is the second planet from the Sun. It’s hot and has a poisonous atmosphere Two main characteristics
Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the smallest one in the entire Solar System. Contrary to popular belief, this planet's name has nothing to do with the liquid metal. Mercury was, instead, named after the famous Roman messenger god Mercurius Mercury takes a little more than 58 days to complete its rotation, so try to imagine how long days must be there! Since the temperatures are so extreme, albeit not as extreme as on Venus, Mercury has been deemed to be non-habitable for humans Understanding tides
