INTRODUCTION
The brain and spinal cord are
completely surrounded by there layer of
tissues the meninges ( membrane
covering) . Meninges provide further
protection lying between skull and brain
vertebrae and spinal cord.

MENINGES

DURA MATER ARACHNOID MATER PIA MATER

DURA MATER
The duramater is the
outermost layer of the
meninges and is located
directly underneath the
bones of the skull and
vertebral column. It is thick,
tough, and inextensible.

DURA MATER LAYER
The duramater consists of two
layered sheets of connective tissue:
Periosteal layer :-This is outer layer of
duramater . This is tough and makes
fibrous connective tissue. Periosteal
layer of duramater connects Skull
and vaterbrae.
Meningeal layer:-This is inner layer
of duramater . Inner meningeal
layer connects subdural space .

INCLUDING AREA
Falxcerebri:-Between right
cerebral hemisphere and left
cerebral hemisphere.
Falxcerebelli:-Between right
cerebellar hemisphere and left
cerebellar hemisphere.
Tentorium cerebelli:-Between
cerebulmand cerebellum.

ARACHNOID MATER
Middle layer of mennges
Fibrous layer
Connects duramater and pia mater
Separated from duramater by subdural
space
Separated from pia mater by subarachnoid
space( CSF )

PIA MATER
Thin mater
Makes fibrous tissue
In direct contact with brain
and spinal cord

SPACE
Extradural space:-The extradural space is a potential face between
the inner acpectof skull bone and endosteallayer of duramater.
Subdural space :-The subdural space is also potential space
between the duramater and arachnoid mater.
Subarachnoid space :-The subarachnoid space is between the
arachnoid mater and pia mater.

FUNCTION
Protect the brain and spinal cord
Produce CSF ( cerebraspinalfluid is a shock absorber and
maintain uniform pressure)
Formal a part of BBB( Blood brain barrier )
